Chapter 19: Plague

Tourney was won by ser Abelar, hedge knight from Reach. Royal family returned home. According to words of guards, the road wasn´t happy, with prince Haerys being angry at his father for beating he got after he was caught reading Aegon´s letters.
While Ghis was being ravaged by epidemics, new trends in fashion started in Red Keep and while Aegon was no longer able to follow them and was not considered to be trend setter, he at least became gregarious after his long talks with courtiers (as servants said, they were talking how „orange was the new black“ and about clothes in „fifty shades of grey“, or something like that).
During eigth month, Elaena was pregnant for the fifth time.
Close to the end of the year, dire news came from the east. This new epidemic, called now Great sickness, spread throughout all of former Ghis, where it killed almost half of population of New Ghis. It also spread to Qarth and even Yi Ti. Luckily, desolated lands of North Valyria stopped its spread and while Tolos, Elyria and Mantarys suffered, Free cities were at least for now safe.

Aegon was not interested with these news and instead was trying to find suitable bride for his brother. With Targaryens lacking women, he had to find her among other houses. While his council suggested marriage with one of great houses of Westeros, he was adamant in trying to find bride of Valyrian origin and looks. „Blood of the dragon must stay pure,“ said the king. It took some time, but in the end, he found suitable match in noble from east Volantis, Belicha Qhaedar. Child of only 11 years, she was bethrohed to his brother.

Fourteenth day of third month of year 94, Daemion Targaryen was born.

During his visit in Dragonstone two weeks later, Maegon Targaryen chose to tame one of dragons that lived on the island. After decades of living in the wild, Vermithor was now reaching size of Vhagar before her death and even Dreamfyre grew a lot since death of Aerea eleven years ago. Many were worried if young prince will even succeed, mentioning his grandfather´s brother, who failed to tame wild Meleys almost fifty years ago, but Maegon proved them wrong, taming Dreamfyre and flying on her to King´s Landing.
Image
More news came from the east. While west of North Valyria was abandoned region and people feared to travel through Demon road, death in their homeland drove them to it. Just as Ghiscari flew to Tolos, Mantarys and Elyria, not realizing they were carrying the sickness with them, people from those cities fled to the west. Few emerged on borders of Volantene lands, but among them were also the sick. Volantis, Myr, Pentosh and Lys were affected, with sickness spreading to the north.
Spoiler: show
Image

Lords of Westeros started saving supplies in fear of this plague. At the end of eight month, Tyrosh, Norvos and Qohor were affected and the sickness were flowing to Braavos and Lorath. Both cities close their gates, but refugees attacked guards of Braavos and flooded the city. Soon it was full of dead people.
Lorath lasted for longer time due to their island location. They sank multiple ships filled with refugees after their mainland was filled. But many smugglers were able to pass through Lorathi ships, bringing those refugees who had enough money to pay to Lorathi islands. Soon, sickness overcame the city.
Spoiler: show
Image

Even shore of former Sarnor and Shadowlands in the east were not spared. At the beginning of tenth month, only Dothraki weren´t affected by it. Even some of eastern Stepstones were affected by sick refugees.
And then, at the beginning of year 95, after infecting population of Stepstones, Great sickness came simultaneously to Dorne and south of Cape Wrath.
Spoiler: show
Image

It started moving quickly to the west as Dornishmen started fleeting from Shadow City and Plankytown. At the beginning of third month, there was nowhere to run. Sickness spread to almost all of Cape Wrath and reached Oldtown.
Spoiler: show
Image

Only few days later, High Septon died of old age, although some said he drank poison so he wouldn´t have to endure this plague.
Lords were panicking, but for the time being, King´s Landing was still at peace. Aegon chose to knight his brother, who served as his squire for past few years in small ceremony in Red Keep´s sept.
Image
At the end of sixth month, plague reached Kingswood. In far east and Slaver´s Bay, cities were almost completely depopulated, with healthy people running to countryside in attempt to save their lives.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the start of eleventh month, after Great sickness overcame Reach, Stormlands, Westerlands and even arrived to Rosby and Duskendale, first sick people were found in King´s Landing. Aegon did only thing he could to save his family. He locked the gates of Red Keep, leaving city to itself.
Image
Year 96 came and with it at least some good news. Jaehaerys started showing signs of great intelligence and septons said he is destined for greatness.
During fourth month, Starks rebelled against Karstarks, but due to his confinement in Red Keep, Aegon could do nothing and he wasn´t willing to send anyone from his family on top of their dragons.
In sixth month, news reached King´s Landing. Miraculously, Blackmont in Dorne was unaffected by Great sickness, which septons considered to be sign of demonic influence in Dorne, but maesters dismissed it, saying it was just extremely effective quarantine. Some time later, after thousands of refugees tried to get there, it was also afflicted with plague.
Supplies in Red Keep were substantial, although there was time when everyone believed they would all be infected. Almost every member of Kingsguard became ill and died shortly afterwards, leaving it absolutely crippled.
Close to the end of the year, news came from Slaver´s Bay, where sickness started to slowly disappear. But in Westeros, it went on and on. While most lords did the same thing as Aegon, there were few who wanted to stay with their people or simply didn´t have enough time to effectively cut themselves off. In span of half of a year, three Lords Paramount of Trident died, leaving Meredith Vance to rule Riverlands.

Eight day of twelfth month of year 96, Alysanne Targaryen was found dead in her bed. She was showing no signs of the plague and Grand Maester told the king it was simply because of her old age.
Spoiler: show
Image

Alysanne was burned on courtyard of Red Keep in presence of all Targaryens. She outlived all four of her siblings by decades, both her nieces, three of her husbands and her dragon. Thus died the last Targaryen who remembered civil war between Aegon and Maegor.
During fourth month of year 97, High Septon died from drinking too much wine while Oldtown around him suffered from Great sickness.
At the beginning of sixth month, Qarl Harlaw died and Harlon Volmark became new Lord Paramount of Iron Islands.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aegon spent this time observing cats, as many people believed they were cause of this plague. Yet after his long research, he found out nothing.
With failure to find out what caused Great sickness and suffering of his people, Aegon´s only source of joy was his family. His daughter Vaella was also showing signs of geniality. Yet despite this, troubles with inhabitants of King´s Landing crying for help caused him to throw himself into research. Year 98 came and while in Essos, Great sickness started to disappear, Westeros was still suffering. To add to his troubles, they found old woman hiding in tunnels beneath Red Keep, which scared him to death. If she was infected, she could have caused death of his family.
In Riverlands, another Lord Paramount died at the end of seventh month. But now, instead of plague, she died because of bad food. Her daughter succeded her, but everyone knew it would be her father who will rule, as the girl was only zero years old and inbred, which was caused by both her parents being members of House Vance.
Spoiler: show
Image

Plague reached even Sothoryos, where it ravaged pirate holdings and Summer Islands. Yet at the start of tenth month of year 98, Great sickness finally stopped in eastern Dorne. Nevertheless, prince Alleras died because of it and his daughter now ruled.
To add to the injury, winter finally came to South, killing many people who survived the sickness.
At the beginning of year 99, Great sickness finally disappeared from Dorne and Stormlands, although it took life of princess Loreza, who was succeeded by her daughter. Yet in many places, other epidemics emerged and King´s Landing suffered outbreak of Grey plague.
In Riverlands, ancient House Mooton of Maidenpool was completely wiped out.
At the beginning of eight month of year 99, Great sickness finally disappeared from King´s Landing. But Aegon stayed locked in Red Keep, fearing Grey plague that followed it. Even when people tried to break into Red Keep for days, he didn´t open the gates.
Image
In Riverlands, Winter fever replaced Great plague and in its northern areas, Bloody flux ravaged Freylands. Dorne and Westerlands also had to deal with another outbreaks of Grey plague.
Spoiler: show
Image

Year 100 came, but nobody celebrated it. While in the South Great sickness remained in only small areas, it still raged in the North.
In sixth month, Citadel sent ravens to all lords, informing them winter was over. And then, close to the end of seventh month, King´s Landing and most of Crownlands were finally free of all epidemics. Aegon opened gates of Red Keep and ended his almost five years long seclusion. Besides Alysanne, all members of House Targaryen survived it.
First problem he had to deal with was his brother. His intended wife died during outbreak in Volantis and he had to find wife for Maegon once again. Luckily, her father survived and agreed to marry Maegon to Donipha, his younger daughter.
And then, at the beginning of eight month, Aegon´s daughter Vaella came to him, saying she has strange dreams. After listening to her, Aegon explained her everything about dragon dreams and her ancestor Daenys, who saved Targaryens from Doom of Valyria. After few days, it became clear Vaella had the same talent.

Chapter 20: Silence before storm

With King´s Landing and court coming to its normal life, Aegon chose to prepare his two older sons for knighthood. He took Haerys and Jaehaerys as squires. He also prepared wedding feast for his son and daughter, during which he introduced Haerys to lords of the realm. During this, Haerys became friend with Maegon Velaryon, heir to Driftmark and was trained in swordsmanship by lord Sarsfield. Aegon also had to solve problem with his brother, when he killed servant in rage. Eventually, he chose to not punish him, which upset the peasants.
While King´s Landing feasted, Stormlands suffered war. Tarths rebelled because of revocation attempt by lord Tommen, but he was eventually able to defeat them.
Next year went without major events, except when Gael Targaryen became pregnant. Whole realm cheered for princess, but her pregnancy ended in stillbirth. Her daughter was born close to the end of second month of year 102. Girl was named Daeoril and burned on courtyard of Red Keep. Gael became depressed soon afterwards.
Even though Targaryens mourned, King´s Landing started to once again fill with people. In the half of sixth month, Haerys reached adulthood and was granted Dragonstone two weeks later. Yet despite living on the island, he didn´t attempt to tame Vermithor.
Year later, close to the end of ninth month of year 103, lord Arryn died and was succeeded by his son.
Spoiler: show
Image

Baratheons also won their war and imprisoned lady Tarth and often tortured her, if Aegon´s spies could be trusted.
On Dragonstone, Gael became once again pregnant and tenth day of first month of year 104 gave birth to another daughter, who was named after her grandmother.
Spoiler: show
Image

During second month, Damion Sarsfield suggested tax shifted obligations for nobles, to which Aegon and most of the council (from which many, including the king, owed him favors) agreed.
Gael became once again pregnant and Haerys was looking forward for a son, who could marry their daughter. He wrote to Aegon he will name him after him, so eventually, Targaryens named Aegon and Elaena will sit on the Iron Throne again.
But close to the end of the year, Gael became sick and maester couldn´t find out what it was. He suggested she was weak because of her pregnancy and depression she had since her first birth.
Gael Targaryen was found dead in her bed on twentyfourth day of twelfth month of year 104. Only few days before that, Sunshine laid an egg, which was given to little Elaena. Her dragon, Sunshine, which was by now considered to be the most beautiful dragon in Westeros, made its lair on Dragonstone.

Haerys became depressed after his beloved wife´s death. In the meantime, Aegon had to deal with uprising from House Tully in Riverlands, but after writing to their leader, they ended it and reconciled with Lady Paramount.
In eight month, white raven came from Citadel. Winter was once again here, but luckily, this proved to be short and mild one.
Year 106 came and during third month, Grand Maester Daryn died. Citadel sent another maester, named Beric, to be his successor.
During fifth month, Targaryens celebrated birth of another member of their dynasty. Gaemon Targaryen, son of Alysanne, and his Velaryon wife, had a boy. Although he was physically weak, he survived.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the same time, Lord Commander of Night´s Warch, Corwen, died. He was succeded by Athos Tully, former Lord Paramount of Trident and self-proclaimed king. He died at the end of ninth month, killed by King Beyond the Wall, Ryk II.
Spoiler: show
Image

Later that year, Jaehaerys Targaryen took Vaella Targaryen as his wife. While Aegon was preparing fest for them, during tenth month, he found kitten in Red Keep. Because of his stressful situation, he chose to kick it to make himself feel better.
Grand Maester Beric was not able to save his eye, but at least he saved king´s life.
Image
At the beginning of year 107, Night´s Watch elected new Lord Commander, Cley Cray. He died of old age month afterwards. During second month, King´s Landing started prospering again and Great sickness became nothing but memory. Even more good news came, as Vaella Targaryen was pregnant.
At the end of fifth month, Night´s Watch elected another Lord Commander, Ryam Redwyne.
Spoiler: show
Image

As seventh month came to its end, Vaella gave birth to a son, who was named Aenar. After talking to Haerys, Aegon bethrohed him to Elaena.
Spoiler: show
Image

Close to the end of the year, Haerys started having problems with his friend Maegon, who became lord of Driftmark. It got to the point when lord Velaryon was imprisoned.
In fifth month of year 108, Vaella finished her studies and became great scholar.
Later that year, Ryam Redwyne died and was followed by Dunaver Jast.
Spoiler: show
Image

During second month, Grand Maester Beric died.
In sixth month, Ghiscar laid another egg, which Elaena after consulting with Aegon gave to Vaella. It immediately hatched.
Image
Yet problems arose in Aegon´s family. Elaena, his granddaughter, was showing signs of madness and was even talking in strange languages. Vaella started talking how she wouldn´t allow her son to marry her and how the young princess is cursed.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the beginning of ninth month, Haerys, who was made Hand of the King, came to Aegon with plans for new road network, which would connect Westeros from Oldtown to the Wall. Aegon agreed and first part, called Roseroad, which was supposed to lead to Highgarden, was started being built. Aegon chose to finance it from his own treasury, which was overflowing with gold at that time.
Image
Tommen Baratheon was revealed to be plotting to become Master of Coin, but refused to admit it. Being angered by this, especially because lord Baratheon basically owed his life to Aegon´s mercy thirty years ago, king chose to deal with lord Baratheon once and for all. His spying managed to make people dislike him and soon, many, including Haerys, were part of plot to kill him. He even ordered to put him in stock after his wife complained he was unfaithful to her.
Close to the end of fourth month of year 110, when Jaehaerys was visiting his brother in Dragonstone, he chose to get a dragon of his own. He chose Sunshine, dragon of his dead sister, and managed to tame the beast.
In King´s Landing, little Elaena became sick, but what was more important was that she stopped speaking in strange tongues. Yet Vaella still kept saying the child is evil and that she will only bring death to her house, if kept alive. This extremely angered both Aegon and Haerys. Yet they had to time to deal with Vaella, as lord Velaryon rebelled against Haerys. Luckily, harsh letter from Aegon made him reconcile with his liege lord.
While his work as Hand of the King made Haerys to stop mourning about Gael, he became stressed man, whose only free time was spent with his daughter and parents.
Close to the end of ninth month, another tragedy hit Targaryens. During tourney, Maegon Targaryen was killed by Alyx Lodel. He was burned in Red Keep.
Spoiler: show
Image

Only two weeks later, Daemion Targaryen walked into Dragonpit and emerged hour later, riding Maegon´s dragon, Dreamfyre.
Close to the end of the year, plot to kill lord Baratheon finally came into fruition. Yet they were unsuccesful and even at the start of next year, when they tried again, he was able to escape.
In sixth month, Daemion became sick, but new Grand Maester was able to heal him. Although, as Aegon´s wife Elaena said, he became quite close to Vaella during that time, as his sister often visited him.
Winter ended during ninth month, before ever reaching King´s Landing. Only one day later, Vaella became sick.
Image
Yet, just like with Daemion, Grand Maester Donnel helped her tremendously and she healed in short time. Yet as many would later say, he would have done better if he let her die that day.
Sixth day of second month of year 112, Vaella had one of her dreams. She said to her parents and brothers that they had to get rid of Elaena. She pleaded them to listen to her, but even though Jaehaerys stood by her, their parents and Haerys ordered her to never speak about that. She left, saying if they won´t do it, she will.
As night came, Kingsguard was ordered to go to chambers of Vaella and Jaehaerys. But when they opened the door, they found their beds empty. Everyone in Red Keep heard flapping of wings, as two dragons rose to the sky from Dragonpit. Vaella and Jaehaerys were gone.
Luckily for Aegon, they weren´t able to get to their son, who was put under watchful guard of Kingsguard. Later, they heard from Free Cities that Vaella the Dreamer was gathering men to attack false king Aegon.
At the beginning of first month, lord Jonnel Karstark died, leaving his son Ondrew to rule the North.
Spoiler: show
Image

Later that month, Aegon finally found evidence to imprison Tommen Baratheon and later Haerys tol him that he will die in woods, killed by bowman.
Two days later, on seventh day of sixth month of year 112, letter came to King´s Landing.
„I, Vaella of House Targaryen, hereby proclaim my father Aegon to be false king. I proclaim my brother Haerys to be cuckold, on whom his wife cheated with demon. I proclaim my niece Elaena to be child of said demon and threat to the whole world. I have seen it in my dreams and I know my dreams are true. Everyone who wishes to fight on the side of Light and not Darkness, join me! We will destroy false kings and servants of demons and free our realm! Join me and we will burn them all and send them to hell where they belong!
Join me!“
Aegon, Haerys and Small council debated for many hours. Even Elaena joined them, talking how Vaella has gone too far. Strangely, though, Daemion was missing. Gaemon was sent to find him, but returned empty-handed. He even checked on prince Aenar and found him missing. Mere moments later, guard stormed into the chamber.
Great black dragon was circling above the city, spitting fire into the air. Gaemon and Aegon immediately ran to reach Dragonpit through secret tunnels, but before they left the courtyard, Dreamfyre flew south, above the Red Keep, burning Targaryen flag on top of its highest tower.
Dance of Dragons began.

Meanwhile, houses Sarsfield and Vance support the Throne. Houses Florent and Volmark don´t participate in the war. Rebels have thirty thousand more troops, if Faith Militant is included and both sides controll three dragons.

Chapter 21: Old against the young

Aegon sent ravens to all lords of Crownlands and his Lords Paramount. Crownlander lords answered the call, but Karstarks of Winterfell, Arryns of Eyrie and Baratheons of Storm´s End joined Vaella. High Septon also declared for her. Even Prince of Dorne allowed her to land on his shores and supplied her army on their march through the desert. At least Sarsfields and Vances remained loyal.
Aegon had to decide course of action. After talking to his council and commanders, they all agreed that real threat is in the south. Neither Vale or North could get close to King´s Landing in short time and they had to go through Riverlands. But Baratheons and Vaella´s host, forty thousand strong, together with her three dragons had clear path to Kingswood.
Aegon chose to gather army and lead them to face Baratheons before they are able to join with Vaella, while his wife, Elaena, would stay in the city and wait for troops from Crackclaw Point, which were supposed to arrive later.
Soon after the start of war, raven came from island of Paps on shores of Vale. House Elesham chose to support him. Another raven arrived from Dornish Marches, where lord Anguy Baratheon refused to obey his liege lord and declared for Aegon. Another minor house that supported him was house Moore of Darkmoor, whose keep guarded road to Bloody Gate on western side. And last raven was from house Swann from Stormlands, which joined lord Anguy in his support for Aegon. In the North, all houses remained loyal to Karstarks, but Dustins of Barrowlands chose to stay in their castle.
Meanwhile, Aegon hoped that his plot to kill lord Baratheon would bring fruit, but hired bowmen in the woods were unable to kill him. Seeing it was pointless to try to murder him, while he lead his armies, he turned his attention towards the war.
First day of eight month, message came from Wendwater south of Massey´s Hook. Baratheon army, nine thousand strong, was besieging the castle. Aegon seized the opportunity and marched with twentyfour thousand men from King´s Landing, Dragonstone and Crownlands to meet them. They also had two dragons, Fusrodax and Seawing.
Spoiler: show
Image

March to the east was slow and took six weeks, but when they finally met Baratheon host, they obliterated it. Aegon and Gaemon unleashed their dragons, burning thousands of Stormlanders, losing less than two hundred men themselves.
Spoiler: show
Image

Remnants of Baratheon army ran south, where it met with second army, four thousand strong. In the meantime, small army from the Vale, counting only fifteen hundred men, landed in Woodmere. Elaena and second Targaryen army, six thousand strong, went to meet them, while Aegon and Gaemon lead their force to Storm´s End.
Arryns were crushed and main Targaryen army had safe passage to Baratheon fortress. They reached it at the begining of eleventh month and Aegon tried to burn its defenders with Fusrodax. Yet walls of the castle proved to be thick and its defenders were able to wound his dragon. To add to his misfortune, land around Storm´s End was still empty of smallfolk due to Great sickness from years ago. Eight thousand men, one third of his force, died in next two weeks because of hunger, polluted water and sickness. Aegon had to call of the siege and return back to Crownlands.
At the beginning of twelfth month, Vaella´s host reached Blackhaven. They haven´t bothered to siege it and continued further north.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the end of twelfth month, Aegon met with main Baratheon army, twelve thousand strong, in Wendwater. His victory was decisive and right after the battle, he got message from his scouts. Elaena and her army was coming to reinforce his troops.
As year 113 began, Aegon was full of hope. His armies, while weakened, obliterated Baratheons and Sarsfields reached King´s Landing with army twelve thousand men strong. Another army from Westerlands, fifteen thousand strong, was only few days behind them. But news about Vaella also came. She was moving to help Baratheons. Aegon chose to stay in southwest of Crownlands, waiting for her next move and also reinforcemens from Westerlands.
At the beginning of third month, her hose appeared in the south. Aegon´s scouts saw huge army with three dragons flying above it, moving slowly towards the west. He chose to intercept them in Woodmere, close to King´s Landing. Smaller Sarsfield army was behind him, while bigger one was coming from the capital. They had numerical advantage and also dragons to engage Vaella.
In the morning of sixth day of fourth month, both armies met.

Dance of Dragons
It was the biggest battle in Targaryen history up to that point, almost hundred thousand men were present. Yet it is not remembered or named because of that, but becase of dragons that fought in the sky. It was the biggest dragon battle in history of Westeros, where all tamed dragons in the world met. Aegon and Fusrodax, Elaena and Ghiscar, Gaemon and Seawing, Vaella and Fenrion, Jaehaerys and Sunshine, Daemion and Dreamfyre. These Targaryens and dragons fought for a longer time than armies underneath them.

„Are we going to fight them?“ asked Elaena, while chaining herself to her saddle.
„They gave us no other option,“ answered her husband, „if battle is what Vaella wants, she will get it.“
„We will have to focus on Fenrion,“ said Gaemon, „if Vaella falls, they will scatter.“
„Jaehaerys will probably guard her,“ said Aegon, „and Daemion will be eager to kill our dragons while we don´t focus on Dreamfyre.“
„Leave them to me,“ said Gaemon, „you two focus on Dreamfyre and I will kill Fenrion in the meantime.“
„Very well,“ said Aegon, „let´s go kill that bitch.“

She has seen it in her dreams. Great battle in the sky, where old dragons will fight the young. She has seen old dragons falling one by one from their beasts, dying on the ground below. She has seen their armies scatter and doors opening to great chair made of melted swords. She has seen it all and felt no fear, because she knew this day would end in a victory.
„Are you ready?“ asked Jaehaerys, entering their tent.
„Yes. Today, we will fullfill our destiny.“
They came out to the cheers of her soldiers. They climbed on their dragons and rose to the sky. She saw Fusrodax, Ghiscar and Seawing rising from camp of her father. Fusrodax was slower than other two dragons and she remembered message about his wound from Storm´s End. She smiled. Everything goes just as in her dreams.

Just as Aegon Targaryen predicted, Jaehaerys kept Sunshine close to Fenrion, protecting the smaller dragon. Gaemon on Seawing flew his dragon to meet them, while Daemion flew Dreamfyre up. Elaena flew Ghiscar to Dreamfyre, while wounded Fusrodax was strunggling behind.
While Dreamfyre was much stronger, Ghiscar was younged and was able to dodge her attacks. As he was finally joined by Fusrodax, they had a good chance to defeat her.
Yet more interesting battle unfolded on western side of the battlefield, where Sunshine, Seawing and Fenrion battled. All three dragons were still young and agile and many soldiers who were able to look up during the battle described that dragons really danced around each other, often missing wing or foot of their enemy by few feet. But during one of these attacks, when Fenrion almost hit Seawing´s right wing, Sunshine was able to come from the bottom and lock its jaws around Seawing´s neck. White dragon roared and tried to break herself free, but Sunshine´s jaws held her firmly. Seawing´s neck was ripped open and dying dragon fell from the sky, crashing into Vaella´s troops. Gaemon was crushed beneath his dragon´s body and died immediately.

Aegon and Elaena disengaged Dreamfyre and prepared to fight all three of Vaella´s dragons. Ghiscar attacked Sunshine, while Fusrodax went for Fenrion, but was intercepted by Dreamfyre. Fusrodax was able to hold her off, but Ghiscar struggled fighting against Sunshine. In the meantime, Vaella flew Fenrion up and then came crushing down on Ghiscar´s head. He spit fire on bronze dragon, wounding its eye, but otherwise not causing any harm.
Spoiler: show

Ghiscar turned around, only to be hit by Sunshine. Aegon, seeing his wife struggled against two enemies, disengaged Dreamfyre and quickly flew Fusrodax down, where smaller dragons fought. Sunshine barely escaped them, but Fenrion once again attacked. His fires now hit bigger dragon even harder, completely blinding it. It was not without price, though, as Ghiscar´s fires also wounded him.
Dreamfyre arrived into the fight, forcing Aegon to focus on her instead of Sunshine. Golden dragon flew up, where disoriented Ghiscar was flying. Sunshine crashed with Ghiscar in high speed, ripping of his tail. Ghiscar fell down and died.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aegon´s heart fell. He was now left alone against three dragons. Daemion and Dreamfyre clashed with them just as Ghiscar was falling, locking its jaws around Fusrodax´s leg and tearing it off. Aegon´s dragon screamed in pain.
Down below, royal army started routing. Death of two of their dragons and maiming of third was too much for them. They all saw what dragons were capable of when they fought alongside Aegon, Gaemon and Elaena and now it seemed they will have to face all three of Vaella´s dragons.
Aegon, mad with grief after fall of his wife, sent Fusrodax after Dreamfyre. But Daemion was quicked and drew Dreamfyre to finish them off. Fusrodax barely evaded her and Aegon turned to see Sunshine coming at them. Fusrodax crashed with Sunshine, wounding its tail.
But even despite this small victory, all three dragons were still alive. He had enough time to turn Fusrodax around, to face coming Dreamfyre, but that was about it. Dragons clashed.
Spoiler: show
Image

He was falling down, his face turned to see right wing of Fusrodax. Well, at least where it was supposed to be. Fusrodax was unconcious, but even if he was still with him, he was unable to fly. Aegon saw ground and his routing armies. He closed his eyes, accepting his fate.

Sun was setting in as Vaella landed close to remnants of Ghiscar. She has already seen Seawing and Gaemon´s hand sticking from underneath her body, and also Aegon, who broke his neck and apparently every other bone in his body in the fall. But here, group of her soldiers were standing around body of her mother, which was still moving.
She heard Dreamfyre landing behind her. Daemion soon joined her and looked at mangled Elaena with disgust.
„Their army ran away, Vaella,“ said her brother, „we have won great victory today. But what will we do with...this?“
„She will live,“ said Vaella, „I have seen it.“
One of old dragons in her dreams fell and was terribly hurt, but survived. She hoped it would be her mother and gods proved to be merciful.
„We should execute her,“ said Daemion.
„No. She will be treated and kept under watch, but nothing will happen to her. She was only following orders. Our enemy was Aegon, not her.“
„As you say, your Grace,“ said Daemion with a bow.
„Not yet. We still need to take King´s Landing.“

Chapter 22: The Bronze Fury

Spoiler: show
Image

A the time of his father´s death, Haerys was at Dragonstone. He knew how dire his situation was. He had no dragons, his army was reduced in numbers, running to the south of Crownlands before Vaella´s host and Arryns were able to get to Crownlands and besieged Rosby. Luckily, army from Trident also came and message was sent to Dragonstone from King´s Landing, informing him they will strike at Arryns to destroy them before they are able to join Vaella and besiege King´s Landing.
Spoiler: show
Image

Haerys knew, what had to be done. He departed from the castle with few guards, climbing the Dragonmont.
Spoiler: show
Image

Eleventh day of fourth month, king Haerys Targaryen flew Vermithor over King´s Landing and landed great beast in Dragonpit.
Yet despite this achievment, King´s Landing had only short time to prepare its defenses. Aegon counted on ability to destroy Vaella before she reached the capital. Aegon stayed in King´s Landing for two weeks and then flew away, to take command over weakened royal army. During his stay, he managed to get false information about his movements to Vaella, suggesting royal army was regrouping under his command in Bramsford to the west of King´s Landing. Luckily, she thought it to be true and haven´t crossed Blackwater Rush to besiege the capital.
Spoiler: show
Image

Unfortunately, army of House Vance was unable to defeat Arryns in Rosby. At least Sarsfields were able to regroup in King´s Landing. Their army still had more than twenty thousand men and with return of royal army under command of Haerys, their numbers were equal to Vaella´s. He chose to fight her close to the capital.

Battle of Siblings
Daemion stormed into Vaella´s and Jaehaerys´ tent.
„Vaella!“ shouted her brother, „Vermithor.“
„What?“ asked Jaehaerys.
„It just rose from Dragonpit,“ said Daemion, panic in his eyes, „that bastard Haerys was able to tame him.“
Both her brothers looked at her, question in their eyes. She know what they were thinking. With Sunshine and Fenrion wounded, Vermithor was able to defeat them.
„It doesn´t matter,“ said Vaella after a moment, „we defeated Aegon and we will defeat our brother too. Sound the trumpets! We attack now.“

He heard cheers from the city below as he rose from Dragonpit. While he still had some problems controlling the Bronze Fury, after more than a month of flying, he believed he was capable to take on his enemies. He saw Vaella´s army positioning itself in the west to engage his force. But his focus was elsewhere. He circled above the city until he saw three dragons rising from enemy camp. His sister and brothers chose to face him.
„So be it,“ said Haerys to himself and turned Vermithor to the west.

Vaella arrived on the first day of sixth month. Haerys chose to fight her on the field west to the city. Their armies were equal in size, both meeting each other before that, during battle which was already being called Dance of Dragons. Royal and Westerlander troops were eager to repay rebels for their previous loss. And above the city was Vermithor, greatest living dragon in the world. Battle started and dragons clashed in what was to be the decisive battle of this war.
Spoiler: show
Image

Sunshine and Fenrion stayed in the back, leaving Dreamfyre to engage Vermithor first. Haerys accepted this fight and drove his dragon right into Daemion´s. They clashed and Dreamfyre locked her jaws around neck of Vermithor. Bronze Fury was struggling to escape, trying to burn black dragon with his fire. His legs scratched belly of Dreamfyre and it almost seemed as if she was becoming weaker and weaker, trying to hold onto much stronger Vermithor. But then Fenrion flew from above, tearing membrane of left wing of Vermithor. His dragon screamed in pain after Sunshine attacked his head and Dreamfyre released him and attacked his right wing. Haerys struggled to fight against all three dragons and Vermithor was becoming weaker and weaker from all his wounds. It was then when Sunshine landed on its neck, burning the wound caused by Dreamfyre.
Spoiler: show
Image

She has seen Vermithor crash into the ground. Daemion turned Dreamfyre on their enemies, burning Targaryen and Sarsfield troops. She landed Fenrion, being followed closely by Jaehaerys on Sunshine. Her brother was laying on the ground, mangled by the fall, one of his legs completely crushed by body of the Bronze Fury.
„What will we do with him?“ asked Jaehaerys.
„No need to prolong his suffering,“ said Vaella and looked at one of her soldiers standing close to them, „cut off his head.“

(Yep, charitable chaste kind widower, who mourned his wife for years, but became proud in last month of his life, will pay for his sins in afterlife. Good job, CK2, good job. And yes, I switched to Vaella to execute my character, so army tens of thousands strong and capital city doesn´t capitulate in the middle of battle just because the king was imprisoned.)

Spoiler: show
Image

Just as the battle was being lost outside the gates, lady Rhialta Thorne put crown on the head of little Elaena and with agreement of the rest of Small Council became her regent.
Spoiler: show
Image

Battle ended in disaster. Arryns arrived from the north, joining Vaella and flanking loyalist army. With Daemion above them, they routed, trying to escape to southern bank of Blackwater Rush. Half of royal fleet was burned by Dreamfyre as the ships were carrying soldiers that captured them. Vaella´s forces were able to capture many soldiers, among them Tytos Lannister, lord of Lannisport, who joined Vaella with his men.

Yet defences of King´s Landing were formidable thanks to efforts of queen Aerea many years ago. Lady Rhialta hoped that they will hold and Vaella will break off the siege. Vaella´s army prepared siege equipment and twentyfirst day of sixth month, they attacked. Vaella and her dragons burned men defending King´s Gate and with it districts of King´s Landing that surrounded it. Yet they were not able to break through, rubble from the gate serving as better defense than the gate itself. Eventually they broke off the assault.
Arryns went north to guard the flank of Vaella´s host and besieged Hayford. Many asked why was regent so stubborn in defending of the city, but it seemed she simply wanted to rule the realm, even if it meant allowing Vaella to burn everything until her army starved to death. Seventh day of seventh month, she proclaimed that queen is not capable to rule even after reaching adulthood, due to her madness.
Spoiler: show
Image

According to her servants, Elaena wanted to plead with king of Turnip People to take care of her council.
Two days later, another assault began, with Daemion breaking through the Mud Gate. King´s Landing was overrun by Vaella´s forces, but Red Keep still held. They managed to defend it for seven days, before scorpions and catapults on towers of the castle were all destroyed by dragons and all three dragonriders landed on courtyard of Red Keep.
Rhialta Thorne and all members of the court were brought to Great Hall. There they saw Vaella, sitting on the Iron Throne, with Jaehaerys on her right and Daemion on her left side. And under the throne was her dragon.
She ordered Elaena to be brought in front of the Iron Throne and declared her to be a demon spawn that had to die. Fenrion opened his jaws and burned Elaena alive, eating her body afterwards.
Spoiler: show
Image

After that, nobody was brave enough to stand against her. Small Council and Lady Regent were relieved from their duties, but no other punishments were carried. Vaella Targaryen was crowned by her husband while her dragon was still eating burned body of previous queen.

Chapter 23: Cleaning up

To appease lords of Crownlands, who supported her enemies, she put many of them on Small Council. Her brother and husband, Jaehaerys, was named Hand of the Queen.
Another issue that came after the war was fate of those who fought against her. But just like in case of Crownlander lords, Vaella proved to be merciful. All they had to do was to send a hostage to King´s Landing, to ensure their loyalty. Thus, the war was officially over.
Fourteenth day of eight month, her mother, who was left under house arrest, died from her wounds. With her death, Dark Sister was given to Jaehaerys.
Seeing how quickly was Vaella able to defeat her enemies and also her mercy, rest of the realm was content with their new queen. Yet at the beginning of eleventh month, she got message from Lys, where its rulers complained about Ironborn raiding their lands. Despite the fact that these acts happened during the war, she chose to pay compensation to the Lysene, to ensure Free Cities don´t make any problems.
Another troubles came in form of Ironborn woman named Barbery of Shatterstone, who gathered significant host of unhappy peasants and started raiding Iron Islands. Vaella chose to do nothing, trusting lord Volmark to take care of this nuissance.

Close to the end of the year, Dunaver Jast, Lord Commander of Night´s Watch died. Three months later, raven arrived, informing Vaella that winter was coming. At the beginning of fourth month, Night´s Watch made a surprising choice in their elections.
Spoiler: show

In sixth month, she was asked by Tyroshi to declare embargo of Lysene ships in Westerosi harbors. She refused their offer of gold. Multiple offers from another cities came during next years, but she turned them all down.
With her succession and death of Elaena, she had to find wife for her son Aenar. Unfortunately, there was no sister or cousin he could marry and just like her predecessors, she preffered Valyrian bride rather than Westerosi one. Luckily, suitable bride was found soon. Little Rhaenyra Velaryon, girl only seven years old and one of few remaining Velaryons with Valyrian looks, was still available and her family agreed on bethrohal to Aenar.
At the same time, Daemion agreed to marry Brienne Baratheon, daughter of lord Tommen, to show gratitude for Baratheon support in the war.
Spoiler: show

At the beginning of year 115, it became clear that Ironborn couldn´t handle rebels. Vaella sent Daemion on Dreamfyre, who was able to raise small army and defeat rebels close to the end of third month.
Two months later, Grand Maester Donnel died and Citadel sent Orys Connington, distant relative of Vaella, to become new Grand Maester.
At the end of tenth month, Tommen Baratheon was killed during tourney, leaving his son Brus to rule Stormlands.
Spoiler: show

Close to the end of the year, Brienne Baratheon gave birth to healthy daughter, who was named Viserra.
Spoiler: show

Sixth day of second month, Aenar´s egg hatched. Yet joy turned to worries, as his dragon, named Luciferon, turned out to be weak and sickly being. It died four days later.
Image
During fifth month, winter ended before ever getting into King´s Landing.
Ironically, after taking throne from her father, Vaella started to become as pious as he used to be. She supported artist working on sculpture of Maiden and even started spending hour a day in prayers.
Image
At the end of sixth month, High Septon died. Month later, preparations for grand tourney in King´s Landing began. Many lords came to the capital, but in the end, the final joust was between two members of the same house. Tyrion Plumm and Philip Plumm clashed with each other many times, but eventually, Philip became a winner.
During tenth month, message came from Essos. Dothraki have been reunited under Great Khal Tokko, who started preparing invasion to the west, while also sending small bands to attack remnants of Tall Men. Both Qohor and Volantis started preparing their troops and sent envoys to Astapor, to hire Unsullied.

Chapter 24: What lies beyond

In eleventh month, it became clear Vaella was pregnant. Month later, House Tully decided to rebel against Vances, to take back Riverlands. New year came and message arrived from lady Vance, asking Vaella to order lord Tully to stand down. Vaella agreed, but lord Tully disobeyed her and was branded as a traitor.
In the meantime, Vaella started reading religious books more and more, ironically becoming as pious as her father, who died while fighting her.
At the beginning of sixth month, she gave birth to a daughter, who was named Alearys.

Month later, Great Khal made his first move. Surprising everyone, he chose to attack Lorath. Yet nobody was concerned by savages half world away in Westeros. Vaella chose to focus on studying old books. She paid off loan from Iron Bank that she took while gathering men for attack on Aegon. She used some of money from treasury to build observatory, in which she started studying the stars.
Image
Later that year, Wildlings once again tried to attack the Wall, but failed.
Next year, Dreamfyre laid her first egg, which Daemion kept for now, planning to give it to his daughter. Vaella also progressed with her studies, focusing on mysteries that lay beyond the stars.
Image
In tenth month, lady Vance had to face another rebellion, now from house Wayn of Darry. Old lord Willem also refused to stand down and just like lord Tully was branded traitor.
At the beginning of third month of year 120, white ravens flew from Citadel. Winter was coming.
Vaella spent more and more time in her observatory. She chose to purchase more equipment, to help her in her studies.
Tully rebellion ended and lord Tully was imprisoned. Close to the end of the year, after many defeats and captured castles, Lorath chose to surrender to the Great Khal. But those who believed other Free Cities would follow were wrong. Khal Tekko attacked Ibbenese settlements on the shore and vowing to conquer even their cold island.
In the meantime, Vaella´s studies have revealed new things to her.
Image
Spoiler: show

Her studies finally brought some results. In the next days, servants started talking about strange voices coming from the observatory.
Two months later, Brienne Baratheon gave another child to Daemion, but boy Aelyx never lived.
Despite their mourning, Vaella chose to organize wedding for her son and Rhaenyra Velaryon, who were now both old enough to marry. Whole realm was invited to this great event. War in Riverlands finally ended in victory of Vances, allowing everyone to travel safely.
Image
While her son was enjoying time with his wife, she spent more and more time studying the Necronomicon and its secrets. She read about mysterious Deep Ones, about buildings of greasy black stone, about corpse city of Stygai, about Grey Waste in Essos so similar to snowy lands in the north of Westeros. And she read about Great Other and his servants, who will one day return.
Image
In the meantime, lord Roland Crakehall, who was imprisoned for murdering one of servants during wedding feast was proclaimed innocent and released. Already stressed Vaella became more and more depressed. Grand Maester Orys failed in his studies in refuge that her father built.
Yet beginning of new year brought some good news. After many years, road that her brother Haerys planned to Highgarden, was finished. Vaella chose to continue in building more roads, choosing to continue Roseroad to Oldtown, connecting two biggest cities of Westeros.

During second month, Fenrion laid an egg. After long consideration, Vaella chose to give it to her son, so he can try hatching second dragon for himself.

Only two weeks later, his egg hatched and the little dragon seemed to be healthy. He named him Arrax.
Spoiler: show

As the year 122 went on, she started seeing visions of strange cities in cold deserts and dead things moving between the ruined walls. She read about K´dath and things that wait there, but luckily, her mind did not shatter under these revelations.
Image
Close to the end of the year, Alearys started showing signs of paranioa, which greatly worried Jaehaerys, who thought his daughter might be mad. But all that Vaella cared about were her studies and her book.
At the beginning of year 123, Theodan Dayne became Lord Commander of Night´s Watch.
At the beginning of seventh month, she became pregnant once again, but at the same time, cough that she experienced proved to be symptom of cancer.

Luckily, Grand Maester Orys proved to be great help and made her feel completely healthy.
Later that year, High Septon died. Aenar, now an adult, came to her, asking to be named Prince of Dragonstone. She agreed.
Sixth day of second month of year 124, she gave birth to a daughter. Girl named Alysanne was burned on courtyard of Red Keep later that day.
Spoiler: show

This loss left Vaella completely crushed. Nothing could cheer her up, not even her beloved husband.
Few months later, Orys Targaryen, descendant of Alysanne, asked her to find him a wife. He got no response, so he chose to take matters to his own hands, marrying Demerei Corbray, heir of this ancient house.
Spoiler: show
ImageImage

Members of the court didn´t really bother with these news. They all were more concerned with declining state of queen Vaella. Both Daemion and Jaehaerys tried to somehow help her and begged her to stop her studies, as they believed them to be source of her depression. But she ordered them to stop bothering her, focusing even more on reading Nectonomicon. She spent more and more time in silence, even in presence of her family. Her cancer also started to affect her and Grand Maester Orys didn´t give her lot of time.
In the morning of eight day of tenth month, Jaehaerys found their bed empty. Just as he was wondering where did Vaella go, servant knocked on his door.
Dead body of queen Vaella Targaryen laid on spikes surrounding Maegor´s Holdfast. While Jaehaerys collapsed, Grand Maester Orys sent raven to Dragonstone, to inform king Aenar about his mother´s death.

From „Son of the Dreamer“ by Maester Jon
Many were surprised by this act, especially maesters. After infamous ser Daeron, who tamed Dreamfyre and was executed by queen Aerea, nobody except Targaryens rode these beasts. And even before that, the only dragonrider outside their house was Alyssa Velaryon, who tamed Caraxes only when her son needed more dragons in his war. Although, as writings of Grand Maester Orys say, houses Targaryen and Velaryon stopped being close during reign of Aerea, after lords of Driftmark tried to murder her and even rebelled. Even though House Velaryon became extremely powerful, one of its branches gaining lands in Reach through marriage to Alianne Florent and another becoming lords of one third of Vale of Arryn, their close ties to Targaryens from times of the Conqueror were severed and there simply were no Velaryons close enough to Targaryens to even think about possibility of taming a dragon.

In eleventh month, Elbert Arryn, caled „the Evil“, died and was succeded by his son.

In second month of year 137, part of Kingsroad leading to Trident was finished, with works being made on road to Winterfell.
Eight day of third month, Daemion Targaryen died of poor health.
Spoiler: show

Aenar inherited Dark Sister and chose to give it to his son, Aegon, so the boy could train with it.
In fifth month, ser Jonald Baratheon, who was hostage in court from times of Dance of Dragons, asked Aenar to fight Orys Targaryen in duel. This was an odd request, as everyone knew king hated ser Jonald. He disallowed the duel immediately.
Close to the end of eleventh month, Kingsroad was almost finished. Only small parts between Winterfell and the Neck remained to be built. During his visit to the North, he met with representatives of Night´s Watch.
Image
He also talked with Lord Karstark about this issue and after long consideration chose to refuse Night´s Watch´s pleas.
„Lords of the North came to your aid every time when Wildlings attacked,“ king was reported to say, „and now you want me to take land from them and give it to you? Shame on you!“
At the beginning of year 138, Kingsroad to Winterfell was finally finished and Aenar chose to extend it to the south, so Storm´s End could also be connected with the capital.
In fifth month, High Septon died and few days later, message informing about end of winter came from Citadel.
Under influence from his wife and to bind their houses even more closer, Aenar agreed to bethrohe their daughter Maega to Haerys Velaryon, heir to Driftmark.
In eight month, monks from Quiet Isle visited King´s Landing and after listening to them, Aenar chose to give them funds.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the same time, Norvoshi rebellion ended. Only few weeks afterwards, new High Septon died. And few weeks after that, Wildlings once again attacked and were once again defeated by lords form the North and Night´s Watch.
Orys Targaryen had another child in tenth month, but little Qoherys was born already dead.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the beginning of year 139, people started whispering about problems in marriage of Aenar and Rhaenyra. King´s wife was quite paranoid, which caused some divide between them.
In second month, Gelmar Volmark died and his son was elected Lord Paramount of the Iron Islands.
Spoiler: show
Image

After many years of his firm reign, people started calling Aenar „the Imperious“. Truth be told, many of his good deeds were caused by his council and he often left minor decisions and listening to peasants to his Hands, but nobody could deny that the king was always obeyed and realm was in a state of long peace (except Riverlands, where weak House Vance struggled to make Tullys obey them).
At the beginning of year 140, his sister Alearys, supported by her husband, arrived to Red Keep and told Aenar his wife was cheating on him. But after years of living in Westerlands and almost no contact with her brother, she held no power over him and he refused to believe his beloved wife would do this to him (even though he has been doing it to her repeatedly with peasant women).
Image
In fifth month, Grand Maester Orys Connington died. Citadel sent Archmaester Trebor, Dornishman, to serve him.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the beginning of year 141, Great Khal Tokko attacked Pentos. Some of Aenar´s commanders started talking about need for liberation of Free Cities from horselords, but Aenar simply reminded them of dragons they possessed and said that Dothraki pose no threat to Westeros.
In third month, another winter came and in sixth, words of king have proven to be true. Dothraki overextended themselves and while Great Khal was in the west, east broke free. Unable to stop them, Lorath, Qohor, Norvos and multiple Dothraki khalasars took over huge amounts of land. It seemed dreams about Essos ruled by khalasars were over.

Chapter 27: Time of the fish

Eight day of eleventh month of year 141, Lord Commander of Kingsguard, Armond of Whitecrest, died.
Later that year, Grey plague spread in Duskendale and Rosby, and reached King´s Landing in second month of year 142. Aenar ordered guards to close gates of Red Keep, to make sure nobody infected will threathen his family.
In fifth month, Kingsroad to Storm´s End was finished and building of High Road to the Vale started. Only month later, Rhaenyra became pregnant. Unfortunately, two weeks later, Aenar was saddened by passing of his hunting dog.
In tenth month, Orys Targaryen died of poor physique. He was only thirtysix years old.
Spoiler: show
Image

Close to the end of the year, rebellion erupted in Iron Islands, against tyrannical Cotter Volmark.
At the beginning of year 143, Jaenara Targaryen was born.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fourth month, news came from Riverlands. What couldn´t be achieved in multiple wars was achieved by ravens. Young Harwin Vance, after being pressed by many of his vassals, stepped down as Lord Paramount of Trident in favor of Bellos Tully. After many decades, House Tully regained title given to them by the Conqueror.
Spoiler: show
Image

(Now that´s how you behave when your LP title is taken from you. You fight multiple times each generation, until you get it back. Not like those pussy Starks, Lannisters, Greyjoys or Tyrells. Good job, Tullys, good job.)
Only two days later, egg belonging to Jaehaera Targaryen hatched.
Spoiler: show
Image

In sixth month, Aegon, Aenar´s heir, came of age.
Spoiler: show
Image

In tenth month, lord Tully declared war on Arryns, trying to claim Runestone.
Month later, Aegon was officially named Prince of Dragonstone and was given ancient Targaryen fortress.
Next year went in peace, although Aenar watched carefully at Tullys and Arryns, not willing to support one side over the other unless necessary. In tenth month, Grey plague finally disappeared from King´s Landing and gates of Red Keep were opened once again.
In eleventh month, Aethon Targaryen, son of Orys, tamed Fenrion.
Spoiler: show
Image

Close to the end of the year, lord Ondrew Karstark died.
Spoiler: show
Image

Next year brought end of the winter and interesting news regarding Darklyns. Apparently lords of Duskendale, who themselves had Valyrian blood in them through their marriage with Velaryons, started worshipping gods of old Valyria.
In fourth month, works on last planned road, River Road between Trident and Lannisport, started, after High Road was finished.
At the same time, Aenar got message from lord Arryn, asking him to order lord Tully to end his war. After talking to his council, Aenar wrote letter to lord Tully, as a test of obedience of his new vassal. Lord Tully chose to obbey the king and marched back to Riverrun.
Fourteenth day of eight month, Daemion´s daughter, Daenys, went to Dragonpit and tamed her father´s dragon, Dreamfyre.
Spoiler: show
Image

In twelfth month, lord Brus Baratheon wrote to Aenar, asking to marry his cousin, Viserra. While he was thinking about accepting it, Viserra, who was rumored to enjoy presence of women more than men, talked him out of it. Eventually, lord Baratheon married former slave from Qarth, something that surprised literally everyone.
In second month of next year, High Septon died.
In third month, peasant woman brought child with white hair to Red Keep, claiming she is daughter of the king, but he refused her claims. In the same month, lord Andron Darklyn died, leaving no heir. Aenar had to decide what to do with lands of his house and eventually chose to give them to Derrick Waters, bastard of former lady of Duskendale, and legitimizing him in the process.
In sixth month, new High Septon passed away, causing some people in King´s Landing to claim that younger septons should lead the Faith.
In third month of year 147, Medwick Florent died.
Spoiler: show
Image

In the same year, multiple vassals of Karstarks rebelled against their young lord, but were defeated. But hatred of young Jonnel Karstark was widespread and boy died under suspicious circumstances next year.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aenar chose to visit Winterfell, where he was almost killed by peasants who attacked him while visiting Winter town outside Winterfell.
Image
High Septon died and his successor wrote Aenar, demanding ser Baelon Velaryon, one of his courtiers, to be handed to him, to face trial for his sins. Councilors pointed out that Baelon was excomunicated and Aenar should obey head of the Faith, but king refused, still remembering when he himself was excomunicated by High Septon for imprisoning him for mutilation.
Image
In year 149, his daughter Maega became old enough to marry her bethrohed, Haerys Velaryon. Aenar gave lord Velaryon plenty of gold and silver as a dowry.
Later that year, king seeked treatment for his gonorrhea and luckily, Grand Maester was able to help him. Close to the end of year, winter came.
Next year, sickness finally drove king mad. Luckily, other members of his house fared better, as both Jaehaera and Daenys Targaryen were pregnant. Unfortunately, Jaehaera gave birth to stillborn daughter.
Spoiler: show
Image

Daenys gave birth to healthy boy in second month of next year and named him Valarr.
Spoiler: show
Image

Next rebellion in the North started, and surprisingly, one of the rebels, lord Ondrew Forrester, planned to even take throne. Fortunately, his plans were revealed and he stopped his plots after threat from the king.
Next year, lord Sarsfield organized tourney, which Aenar attended, despite his poor fighting skills and lack of experience. He was defeated in first round.
In eight month of year 152, winter ended.
Close to the end of the year, Daenys gave birth to another son, Gaemon.
Spoiler: show
Image

(Now, for explanation. Because of some weird inheritance things, son of Orys inherited Corbray lands, despite former lord having a daughter. My guess is due to Agnatic inheritance, his titles went to lord Arryn, who gave them to only man with claims: this dude. As you might remember, Jaehaerys and Alysanne had the same issue, where they ended up being vassals of my vassal. And while in any other case, I wouldn´t mind some members of my dynasty getting their own bits of land, I mentioned how this tends to end: dragonriders becoming absolutely useless, their lord reduced to commander of some vassal, while his family members reduced to his own commanders. So, I gave Heart´s Home to daughter of previous lord and moved Targaryens back to my court, where they hopefully can have bigger impact, even as commanders who could fight in possible next Dance.)
In the same month, Jaehaera became pregnant and all Targaryens hoped she will give birth to a healthy son, securing Targaryen line. Meanwhile, all of Reach was ravaged by Grey plague.
In third month of year 153, it seemed Dorhtaki were reforming. Great Khal Tokko, despite his old age, was able to conquer most of Dothraki Sea, while still keeping controll over Braavos and Myr.
In seventh month, Rhaenyra Targaryen was born.
Spoiler: show
Image

Later that year, High Septon died, but more importantly, in eleventh month, message came from Essos. Great Khal Tokko was gone, dying at the age of sixtynine years. His son was unable to persuade Dothraki to follow him and khalasar of his father was broken into several smaller hordes.

I am not sure about Great Houses, as they are often filled with useless people (daughter married to vassal or minor lord from other "kingdom"), who will never become important to the story and writing them would probably take more time than playing the game for 30 years and then make 3 chapters out of it (as simply posting huge family tree would probably mean nothing, since it would just be filled with random names without context).
But Targaryens are something different and I might actually do it. Although, I will have to play more first (I always play for some time, make ton of screenshots and then write multiple chapters out of each session, and right now, I finished everything and can play again), to see, if there is not war coming literally next year (if this is the case, I will simply add Targaryen family tree to the next Overview chapter). If not, then I will probably write one after Aenar dies. I have to admit, I did not even realize how long time passed without any war (in case of Aerea and Aegon II., they both ruled for about 30 year before conflict started, but it has been 40 years now).

Chapter 28: Luxuria

Threat of Dothraki was over, but just as celebrations of freedom in Pentos and Braavos ended, Wildlings attacked the Wall. And, as always, they were repelled.
In third month, High Septon died. Month later, in fourth month of year 154, wife of Cotter Volmark asked the king to punish her husband for sleeping with other women, while visiting King´s Landing with him. Aenar ordered him to be put in the stock for one night.
Next month, lord Florent faced rebellion from multiple of his vassals, who wanted to put his brother into power. Ironically, mentioned brother, lord of Hammerhall, didn´t participate in the war.
Close to the end of fifth month, Aenar arranged marriage between Rhaelinor, daughter of late Orys Targaryen, and Tommen Baratheon, heir to Stormlands.
Spoiler: show
Image

In eight month, lord Tully also faced rebellion. Multiple of his vassals believed he usurped too much power for himself and after he refused their demands, they rebelled.
Few days before the ond of the year, Lord Commander Stevron Mandrake died. Aenar appointed Enger Byrch as his new Lord Commander of Kingsguard.
Spoiler: show
Image

Winter came in tenth month of next year. In the same month, Aenar´s sister died.
Spoiler: show
Image

In twelfth month, woman came to Red Keep with silver-haired child, claiming Aenar to be his father. Surprisingly, king agreed and even chose to legitimize the boy.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the beginning of next year, lord Tully defeated the rebels. Meanwhile, lord Florent died and his young son inherited realm ravaged by war, which was still far from being won.
Spoiler: show
Image

In tenth month, lord Tully became sick and succumbed to his illness.
Spoiler: show
Image

In the same month, Karstarks also faced rebellion from their vassals, but unlike others, lord Karstark asked the king to intervene. Aenar did so and rebels chose to lay down their arms.
In second month of year 157, while riding through the forest, Aenar met a peasant woman.
Image
It turned out to be a beautiful ride.
In sixth month, High Septon died. And then, just as he turned fifty years of age and his court celebrated, message came from north. Last parts of River Road were finished. Great project of king Aegon II. and his son Haerys was finished after more than four decades. Seven Kingdoms were finally completely connected.
As the year ended, lord Florent was finally able to deal with rebellion.
In second month of year 158, message came from the Neck. Lord Arryn gathered an army and marched it to attack lord Harrion Reed. Surprised by this move, Aenar ordered lord Arryn to end the war. Message which came from Eyrie was surprising.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aenar was angered. After talking to his council, he personally flew to the north on Arrax, with support of all other dragonriders. When they flew over Vale´s host, nobody fired on them. And when they landed and demanded Florian Arryn to be arrested, his men handed him over.
After returning home, he put lord Arryn to prison and declared that Arryns betrayed their oath of loyalty and are therefore unfit to rule the Vale. Aenar immediately appointed new Lord Paramount of the Vale. Well, not really a lord.
Spoiler: show
Image

Already controlling one third of the Vale, lady Velaryon from younger line of her house, was one of the strongest vassals of Arryns and considering close ties of Aenar and Velaryons, many were not surprised with this outcome.
In third month, another woman came to Red Keep, now with a daughter.
Spoiler: show
Image

Her legitimization was the last nail in the coffin of friendship and love of queen Rhaenyra and Aenar. Many courtiers whispered about hatred that queen now felt towards the king and how he avoided her as much as he could.
Next month, peasants from surroundings of King´s Landing asked Aenar to be compensated for livestock that was eaten by Gogorkos, one of his dragons, but he refused and sent them home.
In fifth month, imprisoned lord Arryn demanded trial by combat.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aenar sent his Kingsguard, ser Olyvar, to fight for him. Unfortunately, he failed and was killed by champion of lord Arryn. Aenar was forced to let him go.
At least some good news came few months later from Dragonstone, where new hatchling came to the world.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the beginning of next year, Aenar´s daughter Jaenara became adult. Because his wife was now distant, Aenar chose to find himself a new woman. Unfortunately, his daughter was quite disgusted by his offer.
Spoiler: show
Image

Seeing she loved to speak poisonous words about her father, Aenar sent her to Silent Sisters.
Spoiler: show
Image

Even more bad news arrived few months later.
Spoiler: show
Image

Only two days afterwards, his son died in his bed. Small Council debated this issue, asking the king if young Rhaenyra should become a queen, or if his younger son, Gaemon, was to be his heir. Eventually, Aenar chose Gaemon, but allowed his granddaughter to keep Dragonstone.
Spoiler: show
Image

As his heir was now a young boy, Aenar started worrying about his health. He asked Grand Maester Trebor if he could help him with his Gonorrhea, to which Grand Maester agreed.
Spoiler: show
Image

On one hand, his illness disappeared. On the other, the same thing happened to his balls.
In seventh month, Pate Karstark died while fighting some Theo and was succeeded by his young son.
Spoiler: show
Image

Even though he was now eunuch, he still had some useful parts. Close to the end of the year, he started noticing young maid, who eventually fell in love with the old king.
Spoiler: show
Image

Spoiler: show
Image
Image

In second month, Lorimer Sarsfield died and was succeeded by his son, who was almost as old as Aenar. Many started worrying what will come next, as son of new ruler of Westerlands was currently in Essos, where he was spending time with some interesting people.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

In fourth month, another tragedy came.
Spoiler: show
Image

With no male heir left, Aenar chose to do something that was never done before. Ravens were sent to all lords of Westeros, inviting them to King´s Landing, to decide who should be the next king...or queen.

Chapter 29: Great Council

Image
Just as lords started gathering, Grand Maester Trebor died in his sleep. Citadel immediately sent replacement, Maester Fredrec.
Lords started gathering. There were so many of them that their guards and servants had to sleep in city itself, as Red Keep was completely full.
Image
During the feast, king was informed about peasant woman with a little baby, claiming it to be Aenar´s child. He ordered guards to take her away.
After the feast was over, all lords gathered in Great Hall. Great Council of year 161 officially began. First, claimants had to be presented. Obvious claimants were three women: his daughters Maega and Aelora, and Aegon´s daughter, Rhaenyra. Another claimant then presented himself: Aethon Targaryen, descendant of Alysanne Targaryen. Afterwards, Maelor Velaryon, Maega´s little son, was presented as a possible alternative for those who did not wish to vote for his mother because she was a woman. And the last of claimants was lord Gladden Connington, who cited his Targaryen ancestors as basis for his claim. After some talk, lord Gladden´s claim was accepted by the king.
Even during first discussions it became obvious that some claimants stood no chance. Maelor Velaryon was dismissed, nobody supporting two years old boy. Aelora also gathered zero supporters, as some lords were whispering about her strange behavior. Also, as lord Velaryon noted, why should youngest daughter stand before older one?
Rhaenyra´s claim was problematic. According to primogeniture, she was the heir, even though Aenar chose her uncle as his heir when her father died. But little girl had no supporters except for her mother.
After council dismissed three of the six claimants, lords started arguing about remaining three. High Septon supported Maega and was able to convince many lords to agree with him. Aenar himself chose to support Aethon, who promised him to marry his two sons to Rhaenyra and Aelora, joining two Targaryen lines and allowing his house to stay on the throne, which would not be the case if Maega or Gladden Connington were chosen. Yet he was unable to persuade anyone.
After king´s speech, time came to cast votes. When they were counted by maesters, it turned out Aethon had huge support despite failure of the king to persuade more lords in his favor. Gladden Connington got only half of his votes and Maega even less.
Spoiler: show

In elevent month, message came from Riverlands. Roslin Tully accepted demand from her vassals, to reinstall Harwin Vance as a ruler of Trident. Aenar accepted this change and House Vance once again ruled lands they gained decades ago.
Spoiler: show

In fourth month of next year, his daughter gave birth to stillborn child. And only few days later, news arrived from Mantarys.
Spoiler: show

Dragons were back, at least according to mad people who still lingered in old Valyrian city. Targaryens only laughed at this.
In sixth month, another son was born to Aethon and his wife.

Winter finally ended in eight month.
Year later, while visiting King´s Landing, Maega had terrible experience.
Spoiler: show

Month later, Rhaeys Velaryon faced rebellion of lord Arryn, who was immediately imprisoned by the king after refusing to stand down.
In tenth month, another child was born to Aethon.
Spoiler: show

And in seventh month of year 164, message came from Driftmark.
Spoiler: show

At the beginning of next year, lord Sarsfield attacked Reach, trying to take small territories on border of Westerlands. Aenar ordered him to stand down, but he refused. King was now old, almost sixty years old, and was not willing to risk civil war. Yet he chose to brand lord of Westerlands as a traitor.
At least some good news came in second month, with hatching of another egg.
Spoiler: show

And five months later, egg that belonged to Rhaenyra also hatched.
Spoiler: show

In ninth month, Aethon´s wife, Daenys, gave birth to another daughter.
Spoiler: show

Rhaenyra´s mother even married once again, matrilineally to minor noble from Dragonstone.
Spoiler: show

In second month of year 166, Cotter Volmark, lord of Iron Islands, died.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the same time, Tommen Baratheon attacked Reach. Lord Jaden Florent chose to deal with this war by himself and didn´t ask for the king to order Baratheons to stand down. He also counted on winter stopping their possible advance, as days already started to turn. Winter came four months later, yet the war continued. In ninth month, another message came from the Reach. Lord Paramount Jaden died at the age of 28 of poor health.

At the beginning of the year 167, king Aenar Targaryen started feeling weak. His health quickly deteriorated and in the morning of fifth day of first month, he was found dead in his bed.
Spoiler: show

He ruled more than forty years, longer than any other king, even Conqueror himself. He outlived three of his children and with him ended male line of descendants of queen Aerea Targaryen.
Aethon Targaryen was crowned next day, as a first ruler who was not descendant of Aegon „The King Who Never Was“, but Alysanne Targaryen.

So, after my long stay with monks in Himalayas, where I was trying to connect with my inner GRRM (successfully, as you can see from looking at the date of my previous comment), I finally returned.
What basically happened were exams, Christmas and that whole thing with coming of the new year, which apparently makes people celebrate or something. I was also kind of uninspired to do anything regarding writing or even playing this mod and even thought about ending this AAR here (it´s kind of a nice place to end it, to be honest, as Aegon´s line will die out in next generation).
But I really want to see how this turns out and if I get lucky, I will do my last major exam day after tomorrow (seriously, English needs word for that day, it´s absolutely barbaric that you do not have it). And, let´s be honest, what is there even to do for a guy without a girlfriend when he has multiple weeks of free time :D
So, to sum it up, more chapters will be coming (and don´t worry, there will be Overview chapter first, to show all Targaryens, their dragons and most likely major lords of Westeros, because even I sometimes have no idea who is who, after such long hiatus) and hopefully CK2 shenanigans will make sure these chapters will be interesting.

Overview - 167 AC

House Targaryen
After Targaryen civil war, many members of this great house were dead. Tragedy continued in next few years and eventually, only two members were alive: Aerea Targaryen and her aunt Alysanne. Both of them married matrilineally and started two separate line of House Targaryens.

Line of Alysanne
Image
Alysanne struggled to have children which survived infancy and her only surviving son, Gaemon, was born when she was quite old, being actually younger than his nephew, Aegon II. Gaemon died during Dance of Dragons together with his dragon and had only one son. It was Orys, who managed to have more children, but out of three who survived, there was only one boy, Aethon.

Aethon Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Newly crowned king of Seven Kingdoms, he managed to sire five children, three boys and two girls. His wife is Daenys, daughter of Daemion Targaryen, brother of late queen Vaella. He rides dragon Fenrion, one of older Targaryen dragons and one of three survivors of Dance of Dragons.

Valarr Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Son and heir of Aethon Targaryen, he is bethrohed to Rhaenyra Targaryen, daughter of oldest son of king Aenar, Aegon. His dragon is Jaharix.
Image
Image

Gaemon Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Second son of Aethon Targaryen, he is bethrohed to Aelora Targaryen, legitimized bastard daughter of Aenar Targaryen. People speak strange things about young prince, just like his behtrohed. He also managed to hatch an egg and his dragon is called Issilgor.
Image
Image

Rhaegar Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Third son of Aethon Targaryen, bethrohed to his sister, Rhalla.
Image

Rhalla Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Older daughter of Aethon Targaryen, bethrohed to Rhaegar.
Image

Daella Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Youngest child of Aethon and Daenys Targaryen, she seems to be very bright for her own age.
Image

Jaehara Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Sister of king Aethon, she was married to Aegon Targaryen and is mother of princess Rhaenyra. She recently remarried, to minor noble from Dragonstone. Her dragon is Gorgorkos.
Image
Image

Rhaelinor Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Youngest living child of Orys Targaryen, she is married to Lord Paramount Tommen Baratheon. She has no dragon.
Image

Line of Aegon
Image
Far more populous and prestigious in the past, this line of House Targaryen suffered many tragedies, often caused by hands of their own relatives. Their founder, Aegon Targaryen, died in battle against Maegor Targaryen, who usurped his throne. After his death, his sister Rhaena managed to (miraculously, as it could be said) win the war and put their daughter, Aerea, on the throne. Dying few years afterwards, future of Aegon´s line was placed upon shoulders of his twin daughters: Aerea and Rhalla. Unfortunately, immediately after they reached adulthood, Rhalla was killed by her dragon, Ghiscar, when she tried to tame him. Luckily, Aerea was able to secure Targaryen dynasty with her two sons and a daughter. Her son Aegon married his sister Elaena and together they had five children: Gael, Haerys, Jaehaerys, Vaella and Daemion. Their brother, Maegon, unfortunately died in tourney, leaving no offsprings of his own.
Haerys and Gael had two daughter, but only Elaena survived infancy. Gael died at young age and Haerys never remarried. Jaehaerys and Vaella had a son, Aenar. Because of disagreements in the family, Dance of Dragons started. Targaryen dynasty survived this war, just as their dragons, but they were left weakened. King Aegon and his wife were dead. Haerys and his daughter were also killed by rebels.
Remaining three of Aegon´s children did not live long. They had two daughters together, but only Alearys survived childhood. She did not marry her brother, but lord Sarsfield instead. Daemion had two daughters and a son, who died young. Viserra never married, but Daenys married Aethon of Line of Alysanne, binding two branches of House Targaryen together for the first time since their split.
King Aenar was fertile and had four children with his Velaryon wife and two bastards (who were legitimized). His son Aegon had two daughters, but only Rhaenyra survived infancy. Heir to the Iron Throne died before his father, just as his younger brother, Gaemon did. Second Aenar´s son, Jaehaerys, also died as an infant. His eldest daughter, Maega, was married to House Velaryon and had many children before dying at young age. Currently, two of his daughters, Jaenara and Aelora, are still alive. Because of their bethrohal to men of Line of Alysanne, both lines of House Targaryen will once again become one.

Viserra Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Oldest Targaryen currently alive, she never married. She is rider of dragon Aemax and also owns an egg.

Daenys Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Viserra´s younger sister, she is married to king Aethon Targaryen. She rides dragon Dreamfyre, oldest and biggest of Targaryen dragons, only living being from time of Targaryen civil war.

Rhaenyra Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Daughter of late prince Aegon, she is bethrohed to Vallar Targaryen. She is also ruler of Dragonstone and recently hatched her egg.

Jaenara Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Daughter of king Aenar, she was sent to Silent Sisters after reaching adulthood.

Aelora Targaryen
Spoiler: show
Youngest child of Aenar Targaryen, she is bethrohed to prince Gaemon. There are rumours she is spawn of demon and is responsible for deaths of her siblings.

Other riders and dragons
Image
Magnificent beasts of House Targaryen should also be mentioned. While most of them belong to various members of royal house, there are few exceptions.

Sunshine
Spoiler: show
Second oldest dragon, this beautiful golden creature is the only dragon whose rider is not Targaryen. He belongs to Rhaenyra Velaryon wife of king Aenar Targaryen.

Great houses of Westeros

House Baratheon
Spoiler: show
The greatest proof of troubling times in the last century is the fact that Baratheons are currently the oldest house with title of Lord Paramount. While their position was often uncertain, they managed to keep their lands given to them by the Conqueror. They remain close to Targaryens because of lord Tommen´s marriage to king´s sister.
Image

House Florent
Spoiler: show
When Florents deposed House Tyrell from their position as rulers of the Reach, there were few who expected them to survive long. Exceeding all expectations, Florents still rule their lands after more than hundred years, while Tyrells are rotting beneath the ground.
Image

House Sarsfield
Spoiler: show
Just like Baratheons, they were recently bonded with Targaryens through marriage, and just like Florents, they kept their lands while original house withered and died. Lannisters of Casterly Rock are no more and Lannisters of Lannisport are content with rulership over this rich city. After almost a century, green and white flags still fly over Westerlands.
Image

House Vance
Spoiler: show
The same thing cannot be said of this house. Just like in times before Aegon came, Riverlands switch ownership every few decades. Who knows, if Vances will not be just another chapter in the long book describing houses which failed to hold on to there rich and fertile lands.
Image

House Volmark
Spoiler: show
Just like Tyrells, Greyjoys lost their lands quite early and became extinct less than hundred years afterwards. House Volmark currently rules the Iron Islands and seems to be uncontested as of now.
Image

House Velaryon of the Vale
Spoiler: show
Titles do seem to breed titles and there has probably never been better example than House Velaryon. Starting as minor Valyrian nobles serving Dragonstone, they managed to rise higher than anyone else. Marrying into many other families and then inheriting their titles, they now own far more than Driftmark and on top of that, they are the only people who were allowed to ride dragons besides Targaryens. When Arryns were deposed, branch of Velaryons that gained lands in the Vale already owned one third of whole Vale of Arryn. Considering the fact that king Aenar had Velaryon wife, it was obvious that they would be given former Arryn titles.
Image

House Karstark
Spoiler: show
Even Northerners were not spared wrath of the dragons when they acted against them. Conservative people, they still had to accept change of rulers. Now, House Stark faces extinction, just as other fallen houses before it and their relatives, Karstarks, rule North for decades. Northerners do not seem to mind. Not so traditionalistic after all.
Image

House Martell
Spoiler: show
Since times of Aegon, Targaryens have not tried to conquer Dorne. Except when Martells allowed Vaella to pass through their lands, this principality did not have much contact with Iron Throne and it seems both Targaryens and Martells are content to do as their ancestors did before them.

Chapter 30: Let´s get wild

All lords and ladies of the realm were invited to the funeral of king Aenar. At the same time, changes for Small Council were made. While most of positions were filled with vassals from Crownlands or courtiers, Tommen Baratheon was named Master of Ships. Lords Ulrick Sarsfield and Harwin Vance were also offered to act as advisors to the new king.
His son Valarr reached adulthood and only few days afterwards, Aenar´s funeral began. During feast, Aethon had to deal with petitions from various smaller lords. He also donated to the Faith after High Septon expressed his concerns over his lack of piety (this became usual thing in first years of Aethon´s rule).
Feast ended and time has come to burn remains of the old king, the greatest since the Conqueror, according to some.
Spoiler: show
Image

After the lords left, huge pirate fleet sailed into mouth of Blackwater Rush. Hearing about death of old king, pirates most likely believed the capital will not be guarded well. More than six thousand men landed and tried to besiege the city. They were swiftly defeated by the defenders, lead by Targaryens on their dragons.
In fourth month, message came from Castle Black. Wildlings were once again attacking and Lord Commander Theodan Dayne was asking for help. Aethon chose to follow example of previous king and did not sail north. He was heard saying: „Night´s Watch was asking for help for decades, every time when those savages attack, and every time they repell them. Why should we waste our resources and men in this war, when we already know how it will end even without our help?“
In fifth month, at the meeting of Small Council, Tommen Baratheon started talking about his support for Aethon during election of the new heir and how he should repay the favor. King had to agree with him and after another speech from lord Tommen, started vote on a new law.
Spoiler: show
Image

It passed with overwhelming support of the Small Council.
In sixth month, High Septon died. Shortly afterwards, Ulrick Sarsfield left the capital. In tenth month, reasons for this became clear. He attacked young lord Florent, aiming to take over the Reach. Aethon was immediately asked to order him to stop, which he did.
Surprising everyone, lord Ulrick refused. Luckily, king´s men were able to capture him and bring him to King´s Landing. He was commanded to end the war and was sent to the Night´s Watch afterwards. His oldest son became new lord of Westerlands.
Spoiler: show
Image

In eleventh month, Jaenara Targaryen, daughter of Aenar and Silent Sister, gave birth to a stillborn boy from her lover. At the same time, another of members of the Small Council called in a favor with the king.
Spoiler: show
Image

As previously, the law passed. Mere month later, Tywle Sarsfield chose to do what his father could not and attacked the Reach. Fortunately for him and his house, when he was ordered to march back home, he listened.
In seventh month of year 168, Harwin Vance died under suspicious circumstances and was succeeded by his son.
Spoiler: show
Image

And at the beginning of eight month, raven came from Winterfell. Due to rebellion of Reeds, Karstarks couldn´t march their troops to Castle Black. Night´s Watch has fallen.
Image
Surviving members of the Watch escaped to Winterfell and after their Lord Commander died in prison of King Beyond the Wall, they elected a new one.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aethon stood before difficult choice. Wildlings coulnd´t be allowed to keep the Wall, but attacking them during winter could be a disaster. But, as he was reminded, dragons melt the snow. Ravens were sent to lords of the realm on seventeenth day of ninth month. Realm was going to war.

First Wildling War
Spoiler: show
Image

Sarsfields, Velaryons, Vances and the Faith responded. Karstarks, Baratheons and Florents were all engaged in wars (Baratheons and Florents with each other) and did not choose to commit their forces to king´s cause.
Ten thousand men sailed from King´s Landing, lead by Aethon himself on Fenrion, his wife Daenys on Dreamfyre and her sister Viserra on Aemax.
In eleventh month, Florents rushed their peace with Baratheons and sent their army north, to aid the king. At the same time, Lord Commander of ingsguard, Enger Byrch, died while sailing north with the king. Angron Langward became new Lord Commander.
In tenth month, Gaemon reached adulthood and was given title of Regent, until his father returned (Valarr resigned at Dragonstone with his wife and was currently dealing with outbreak of winter fever.
Aethon and his army landed on shores of Brandon´s Gift at the beginning of year 169 and marched to Castle Black. He started conquering former castles of Night´s Watch, but lost half of his men due to severe winter. Yet he pressed on, marching to Shadow Tower.
In seventh month, his scouts told him that huge army of Wildlings is coming to attack him. Despite his numerous disadvantage, he chose to stay and meet them.
On the day of the battle, blizzard started. Wildlings attacked and Targaryen dragons had problems to even stay in the air. Only Dreamfyre was able to attack their enemies. It wasn´t enough. Losing almost fifteen hundred men, Aethon retreated far south, fearing Wildlings will pursue him.
In eleventh month, even Baratheons chose to help the king and army from Westerlands, twelve thousand strong, was marching towards Eastwatch.
They met with Wildling army that defeated king´s force. Surprisingly, Wildlings were able to defeat even Sarsfield and rout their army. At the same time, lord Karstark finished his war and ordered his forces to march north.
Despite losses, more and more men from Seven Kingdoms were arriving to former lands of the Night´s Watch and besieging remaining castles held by Wildlings.
In the South, Daemona Celtigar started rebellion against Rhaenyra. After she asked Gaemon to intervene, he ordered rebellious vassal to stand down, which she did.
At the beginning of fifth month, Wildlings were repelled from all lands behind the Wall and remnants of the Night´s Watch returned back home. War was over.

Aethon started boarding his troops onto the royal fleet and sailed back to King´s Landing. Close to the end of the month, message came to all lords of Westeros. Lord Anguy Vance, Lord Paramount of the Trident, died comatose in his bed. He was only twentytwo years old and the last male member of line of House Vance, which ruled Riverlands. His titles passed to his relative, Willard Reyne, son of lord Reyne. After only fourteen years since Tullys were deposed for the second time, House Vance lost Riverlands.
Spoiler: show
ImageImage

Month later, message came to Aethon, who was stopping with his fleet in Gulltown. Wildlings attacked once again.

Second Wildling War
Aethon, being quite close to Crownlands, chose to return there first and gather more men. When he sailed north once again, he had more than seven thousand men.
High Septon, who chose to aid the Night´s Watch, died in ninth month. Two months later, Aethon landed in Brandon´s Gift.
Some good news came from the South, where Rhaenyra Targaryen was pregnant.
In twentieth day of twelfth month, Wildlings attacked the Wall. Aethon marched from the gate to meet them and scattered their forces. Marching north, he started burning Wildling settlements, but during one of these actions, spear managed to hit Fenrion in the neck, severely injuring the dragon. About two thousand of his men also died during their stay beyond the Wall, but at least they were able to defeat returning Wildling army.
Rhaenyra gave birth to a daughter, who was named Rhaelle, in third month of year 171.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fourth month, Fenrions nijuries partially healed. Aethon destroyed more and more settlements, but kept losing his men because of severe winter. In tenth month, he met with another Wildling army, six thousand strong. But now, their dragons could be unleashed and Targaryens won despite their inferior numbers.
In twelfth month, Wildlings finally stopped their advance. Second Wildling war was over and Night´s Watch was finally safe.

Chapter 31: Madness

Pathetic remnants of royal army returned to King´s Landing in second month of year 172. They were welcomed by Gaemon and king Aethon resumed his rule. At the same time, Gaemon´s intended, Aelora, reached age of fourteen and they were wed. It was huge ceremony, during which Aethon gave his son Dark Sister, both as a wedding gift and as a reward for ruling King´s Landing in his absence.
In third month, Aelora tamed dragon of her father.
Spoiler: show
Image

Fenrion also healed from his injuries and returned to full fighting strength. In sixth month, for the first time in years, King´s Landing was affected by winter.
In tenth month, Grand Maester Lonnel died and was replaced by Bedwyck, Dornishman who achieved rank of Archmaester in Citadel.
Fortunately, realm enjoyed peace after wars with Wildlings and it was only in seventh month of 173 AC, when Aethon had to deal with problems. Lord Baratheon attacked lands of House Massey. Aethon ordered him to stand down, which he did.
In ninth month, Aethon started experiencing fatigue. Grand Maester Bedwyck believed he had pneumonia and his treatment helped the king slightly. Yet later, fever started. Combined with his depression, sickness drove Aethon too far. Courtiers started whispering about king´s madness.
At the end of tenth month, tragedy came. Gaemon, his second son, was killed in tourney. He was only twenty years old.
Spoiler: show
Image

Aethon organized funeral for him, inviting his whole family.
At the end of eleventh month, source of Aethon´s sickness finally became clear. King had gout. When Grand Maester offered to treat him, scared, he refused.
In first month of next year, Aelora, Gaemon´s wife, reached adulthood.
Spoiler: show
Image

Courtiers started noticing that Aelora was talking to people from Essos, who were visiting King´s Landing for various reasons. Some also started talking about her alleged demonic origin once again and even suspected she caused death of her husband.
Twentyseventh day of fifth month, Arrax rose from Dragonpit, carrying his rider towards east. Aelora left King´s Landing. One of her servants admitted under torture that she was going to Essos, where her supporters already formed an army. Daughter of king Aenar planned to take what she believed was rightfully hers.
Spoiler: show
Image

She officially declared her intentions two months later. Aethon responded by calling his vassals to arms.

Aelora´s Rebellion
Unlike Vaella sixty years before her, Aelora Targaryen did not have support of many people. Yes, she managed to gather forty thousand men and hundreds of ships in Essos, but lords of Westeros were still talking about her strange origins and actions when she was a kid. Because of this, nobody joined her, while Velaryons, Reynes, Sarsfields and Baratheons joined Aethon. And even worse, she was without allies in House Targaryen. All dragonriders remained loyal to Aethon.
When army from Crownlands gathered in King´s Landing, they numbered more than sixteen thousand men. Aethon himself took over command of this force and took two dragonriders with him: Rhaenyra Velaryon on Sunshine and Viserra Targaryen on Aemax. They marched from King´s Landing in eleventh month, responding to Aelora´s army of seven thousand, which landed southeast of the capital.
Image
When they clashed at the beginning of twelfth month, Baratheon army appeared in the east and joined Targaryens. Rebels were obliterated, but arrow hit Rhaenyra to her leg. It had to be removed due to infection. At the same time, Aethon got message from King´s Landing. Aelora herself landed with ten thousand men, besieging the capital. Aethon immediately ordered his men to march there. Rhaenyra was ordered to stay back and only Aethon and Viserra came with the army to face Aelora.
Last day of year 174, royal army met with rebels, who were besieging the capital. From their ranks rose white dragon. Aethon and Viserra flew to meet her. At the same time, smaller dragon appeared over Dragonpit. Rhaenyra Targaryen also chose to attack with Seasmoke, despite being pregnant, while her husband and mother-in-law stayed to protect the city.
Spoiler: show
Image

Arrax clashed with Fenrion, but disengaged before Viserra on Aemax could outflank him. Aelora directed her dragon towards incoming Seasmoke and her dragon managed to wound the smaller creature.
Spoiler: show
Image

Yet this attack allowed other two dragons to attack distracted Arrax and Fenrion locked its jaws around his neck. While Arrax managed to free himself, he was wounded. And then, Viserra attacked. Aemax tore open Arrax´s belly and sent Aelora with her dragon crashing down to the ground. Neither of them survived.
Spoiler: show
Image

As soon as they saw their leader fall, Aelora´s soldiers routed and were slaughtered by Targaryen dragons. The war was over before anyone except Baratheons even got to Crownlands.

Armies returned home and Aethon resumed his rule. Only few days after the battle, High Septon demanded one of his courtiers, lowborn woman named Unella, to stand before the Faith and attone for her sins. He chose to accept and allowed members of Faith Militant to take her.
In third month, Hugo Karstark, Lord Paramount of the North, died clutching at his heart. His four years old daughter inherited his lands.
Spoiler: show
Image

In the meantime, Small Council proposed to the king that his daughter, Daella, should marry young lord Reyne, binding their houses. He accepted, although he was heard saying how dragons should not marry lower animals.
In third month, Rhaenyra gave birth to healthy boy with white hair. He was named after his grandfather.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fourth month, Rhaenyra Velaryon died, succumbing to her injuries. She was sixtyeight years old.
Spoiler: show
Image

Madness of the king was slowly increasing and in seventh month, he started saying how everyone thinks he is guilty. Eventually, he chose to prove them wrong, ordering trial by combat. He chose to stand for himself and after hearing this, he chose to order his Kingsguard to stand for their king against this convicted man. Great ser Osric was given honor to defend his king against his king.
Spoiler: show
Image

After they dragged him from the bed and put him into armor, Osric was given sword to fight against Aethon. He immediately fell, unable to walk due to his gout. Aethon was barely standing due to his own sickness and slowly moved to Osric. He raised his sword and chopped of his head. Shocked by this turn of events, king Aethon Targaryen was watching as king Aethon Targaryen walked away, victorious.
In tenth month, High Septon died and Aethon sent five pies to be put on his grave, to honor his hollyness.
In third month of year 176, Dreamfyre laid another egg and Daenys gave it to her younger daughter, Daella. Aethon immediately cancelled her bethrohal to lord Reyne, saying how dragonrider cannot be married to some Westerman.
Immediately afterwards, he organized bethrohal of his daughter to Qoherys Velaryon, oldest son and heir of Lady Massey (who married member of House Velaryon).
In sixth month, his son Rhaegar tamed dragon of his deceased brother.
Spoiler: show
Image

And in seventh month, Jaenara Targaryen, last living child of king Aenar, gave birth to a bastard boy.
Spoiler: show
Image

Month later, gout developed so much Aenar could no longer walk. He confined himself to his chambers, leaving ruling to his Small Council. He started coughing and spent his days in his bed.
Twelfth day of ninth month of year 176, king Aethon Targaryen died in his bed.

Chapter 32: Family issues

Spoiler: show
Image

Lords were invited, to feast and remember late king Aethon. During the feast, Valarr befriended Angron Langward, Lord Commander of Kingsguard. After the feast, body of his father was burned and new king was crowned.
In second month of year 177, Banfred Redwyne, lord of Westmarch, rebelled against Florents. Yet king did not concern himself with this and instead chose to participate in tourney organized by Eustace Hayford. Unfortunately, the king was defeated in first round.
In eight month, his sister´s egg hatched.
Spoiler: show
Image

In tenth month, his brother Rhaegar and sister Rhalla were married. During all this, lord Owen Florent won his war against rebellious vassal. When one of Valarr´s minor vassals also had problem with rebellious underling few months later and asked for king´s interference, he interfered and resolved it all peacefully.
In tenth month of year 178, his wife Rhaenyra became pregnant. And short time afterwards, close to the end of the year, raven arrived from the Citadel. Winter was coming to its end.
Next year, he had to deal with farmer who claimed lord Tommen Baratheon destroyed his field when it caught fire from his camp. Valarr ordered him to pay recompense to the farmer.
In second month, Grand Maester Bedwyck died and Citadel sent Archmaester Ethan as replacement.
In fourth month, his wife´s dragon laid an egg, which was given to his heir, Aethon.
In fifth month, Rhaenyra gave birth to white-haired girl.
Spoiler: show
Image

In eight month, Viserra Targaryen, daughter of Daemion (brother of queen Vaella) died at the age of 63 years. Her sister, dowager queen Daenys, was given egg which her sister owned. She chose to give it to her daughter, Rhalla, king´s sister. Yet when she tried to hatch it, she failed.
Spoiler: show
Image

At the same time, their sister Daella was married to Qoherys Velaryon.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fifth month of year 180, Angron Langward died and Steffon Buckshorn was named as new Lord Commander of Kingsguard.
Valarr attended another tourney, organized by Lothar Edgerton, lord of Rosby. King did much better than before, but still didn´t get to the final rounds. This inspired him to organize tourney himself. Ravens were sent to all lords and they came. Yet with them came trouble.
King was approached by septon Myles Gargalen, who informed king that High Septon had his one of his family members murdered. Valarr ordered to imprison High Septon, who was present at the feast. He ordered trial to begin the next day. While finishing the feast, Valarr befriended Robin Pyle, lord of Kingswood.
Witnesses were questioned and only few days after the imprisonment, High Septon was found guilty. Valarr chose to spare his life and sent him to Night´s Watch. Message was sent to Oldtown, informing the Faith they have to elect new High Septon.
Tourney lasted two weeks, during which many knights achieved glory. In the end, husband of king´s siter, Qoherys Velaryon, was declared winner. Yet, surprisingly, he chose Carene Lolliston, not his wife, as Queen of Love and Beauty.
After the end of tourney, Grand Maester fell ill and died. He lasted only two years and Citadel sent another old man, Archmaester Addam.
Winter came once again in first month of year 181. At the same time, message came from the North. Damon Bolton, lord of Dreadfort, died from pneumonia. He was only four years old and with him, House Bolton went extinct. Surprisingly, lady Karstark gave Dreadfort to one of few remaining Starks.
In fifth month, king started to feel weak, but continued working. People at court started talking how it might be something serious and some of those whispers reached his brother, Rhaegar. Maybe those whispers caused it, or maybe he was just naturally ambitious, but few months later, he left on his dragon to the east, where he declared his intent to conquer Seven Kingdoms for himself. His wife also came with him.
Spoiler: show
Image

Valarr started preparing for war and ordered to repair walls of King´s Landing. In the meantime, everyone at the court was frightened by another thing: greyscale that Grand Maester Addam caught. Luckily for everyone else, he died of old age few weeks later and was replaced by Archmaester Trystane.
Next year, king finally got better. In second month, message came from the Wall. Wildlings were once again attacking. Faced with possible attack from his brother, king was not willing to contribute to the war either with men or dragons.
Close to the end of the third month, his son´s egg hatched.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fifth month, Lady Paramount Rhaeys Velaryon sent messages to all lords in realm about tourney she was organizing in the Vale. Valarr chose to come, so he could meet with all lords and persuade them to support him instead of his brother, who was still in Essos, gathering supporters.
Among those who were supposed to came was also High Septon, but unfortunately, he died before he could depart from Oldtown and his successor chose not to go. Many believed this was sign that he would not support Valarr against his brother, as to punish the king for imprisoning one of his predecessors.
Tourney started and Valarr defeated multiple opponents. In the end, only he and Qoherys Velaryon remained. While king was capable, everyone knew ser Qoherys would win, as he was champion of multiple tourneys. After few tilts, king laid on the ground while ser Qoherys achieved another victory.
Surprisingly, Rhaegar did not act for whole year 182. Next year came and Valarr took his son as a squire, while also educating Aenar Flowers, bastard son of king Aenar´s daughter.
In seventh month, Night´s Watch asked for help once again. Despite help from multiple lords, including Karstarks, they were almost overrun. Only few of their castles remained and Wildlings were roaming Brandon´s Gift freely. Before he was able to respond in any way, another raven came from Winterfell. All that remained of the Night´s Watch retreated. Wildlings once again captured the Wall.
At least some good news came in form of birth of son to Qoherys Velaryon and king´s sister.
Spoiler: show
Image

Valarr knew about wars of his father and deaths of most of his men. Seeing that Night´s Watch was not even able to hold the Wall for long periods of time, he chose to not fight long war to recapture their lands, but simply chose to wait until Wildlings come to his lands, where they could crush them easily.
Next year came and lord Baratheon once again tried to take land from lady Massey. Once again he complied when he was ordered to stand down.
Lann Farman, Lord Commander of Night´s Watch, was executed by King Beyond the Wall, who imprisoned him when he was trying to escape to Winterfell. Night´s Watch elected new leader, Corwen Toyne.
In the meantime, his spies in Essos told him that Rhaegar was in Ibben, fighting alongside Ibbenese in hopes of gaining their support. Valarr chose to act. He tried plotting to kill his brother, sending spies to spread lies about him and bribe potential allies in Ibben. Their first opportunity came in eleventh month of year 184, when they tried to blow up carriage that was carrying the prince. Unfortunately, before they started, the plot was revealed and nothing came out of it.
Month later, it started to become warmer and Citadel sent ravens, telling everyone winter was over.
In fourth month of next year, Robin Pyle asked Valarr if he could take his daughter as his ward, to which king agreed.
And month later, one of conspirators attempting to kill prince Rhaegar was finally able to find a way to kill him. He was to fall from balcony which he often spent time on. Next month, peasants in Dragonstone reported red dragon appearing on the island. Few days later, message came from Ibben.
Spoiler: show
Image

And few weeks afterward, his sister and Rhaegar´s widow, Rhalla, returned to King´s Landing, asking forgiveness and offering her husband´s sword, Dark Sister, in return. King agreed and Targaryen family was once again reunited.

Chapter 33: Succession question

The biggest event of following months was tourney organized by Tywle Sarsfield. Valarr attended it and reached third place. In second month of year 187, his wife became pregnant once again.
Month later, his daughter Rhaelle reached adulthood.
Spoiler: show
Image

In eight month, raven came from Riverlands. Lord Reyne asked the king for help. Lord Sarsfield was attacking him, trying to take lands of his house in Westerlands. Valarr ordered him to stand down, which he obeyed.
In ninth month, son was born to the king.
Spoiler: show
Image

Year of peace followed and Valarr spent most of his time with his family. In tenth month of next year, Alyssa Karstark chose to attack Wildlings to recapture lands of Night´s Watch, but eventually failed.
In eleventh month, Arnos Melcolm, member of the Kingsguard, informed him that another member, Uller Volmark, was breaking his vows with a woman. He was immediately released from Kingsguard.
In third month of year 189, his son Aethon became old enough to be married to his sister and Valarr organized huge feast to celebrate their wedding. He also granted Dark Sister to his son. Few months later, it became clear Rhaelle was with a child. She gave birth to a girl in fourth month of year 190.
Spoiler: show
Image

In the same month, king had to deal with lord Leobald Gaunt, one of his smaller vassals, who commited a murder. He was imprisoned, found guilty and executed.
In eight month, Valarr made one of his most controversial decisions. After spending eight years in the court and being king´s squire, Aenar Flowers became member of House Targaryen in all but name. While Small Council advised king to not legitimize him, in fear of another civil war if he chose to press his claim, Valarr chose to bethrohe him to his daughter, although in the same way as queen Aerea was. Therefore, all their children would be members of House Targaryen, but without legitimacy that legitimized grandson of king Aenar would provide.
Despite this, Valarr trusted the boy and allowed him to tame one of dragons which were in the Dragonpit. In eleventh month, he finally succeeded.
Spoiler: show
Image

In second month of year 191, Jaehaera Targaryen, mother of his wife and his aunt, died at the age of 61. Her daughter invited Targaryens to attend her funeral.
In third month, their son Aethon reached adulthood.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fourth month, Citadel informed everyone that winter was coming. Month later, one of Kingsguard members died and Valarr appointed Meryn Ashford as a new member. What was extraordinary was the fact that his twin brother, Arwyn, was also member of Kingsguard, meaning these were the first siblings who were ever members of this order.
Year later, Aenar Flowers became adult.
Spoiler: show
Image

Close to the end of the year, lord Manderly rebelled against lady Karstark.
And in first month of year 193, tragedy hit House Targaryen. His son, Aethon, died of poor health at the age of 17. Mourning Valarr organized small funeral only for his family.
Spoiler: show
Image

Besides the fact that king lost one of his children, realm also lost its heir. According to all laws, Aethon´s brother Haerys should be named heir, but one fact complicated this situation: Aethon´s wife was pregnant.
While birth of daughter would not change anything, as men still had precedence over women (as was shown by election of king Aethon as heir of king Aenar), birth of a boy would mean that Haerys was not the heir according to laws of primogeniture.
After week of mourning, king returned to his duties and solved this issue. Haerys was to become his official heir with one condition: If princess Rhaelle gives birth to a son, the boy will become Valarr´s heir. Even in case Valarr dies before the child is born, Haerys would not be crowned as a king until the birth. In that time, queen Rhaenyra would act as regent without a king.
In third month, body of dragon hatchling was found on Dragonstone. It was determined that this dragon was hatched from egg of Fenrion, who was seen flying over that area multiple times few hours before.

In fifth month, his daughter Daenys tried to tame her own dragon. Luckily, servants were able to drag her from Dragonpit in time and maesters were able to save her life, if not her face.

After she was healed, she was married to Aenar Flowers. Valarr had iron mask made for her, covering upper half of her face and hiding what was left of her.
In sixth month, lady Velaryon organized another tourney, but this time, Valarr refused to come, choosing to stay with his family.
In eight month, Rhaelle gave birth to a boy, who was named Aegon and immediately declared as an heir of king Valarr.

Now let´s talk about CK2 inheritance. In reality, primogeniture goes like this: First son (if we are talking agnatic-cognatic primogeniture) is the heir. If he dies, his first son becomes an heir. If all his children die, second son of the king becomes an heir and so on. That´s how it is in ASoIaF, which is proved by the fact that after death of Baelor Breakspear, it was his son who became Prince of Dragonstone, not his brother. There is also the fact that all females come after the males (something that was not clear in my playthrough until Great Council, just like in history of ASoIaF, where this precedent was also created by their Great Council).
Unfortunately, CK2 being CK2, there are few issues and one of them is in my current situation. Basically, how the game works: Oldest son is the heir. If he dies, game checks for his children. If there is no available heir (in this case male), it switches to next available heir, which is my second son. Unfortunately, it doesn´t retroactively check if there is available heir.
So, as you can see from picture above, little Aegon is in fact not my heir despite logic dictating so. If I died now, crown would not pass to the son of my first son, but to my second son and there is literally nothing I can do without switching to elective and choosing him as my heir. Therefore, I have to choose another solution. I will play the game as if nothing happened, but there will be some adjustments:
1. Aegon is my heir despite what the game says. If Haerys is shown in pictures and you see in his portrait that he is my heir, he is not. Aegon is the heir and will be reffered to as such.
2. If my wife dies before me, I will take Dragonstone, so that it can be passed to Aegon when he becomes adult instead of Haerys owning it. Using the same logic, if Haerys after he becomes adult (he is older than Aegon) asks to get Dragonstone, I will give it to him, but immediately get it back through console, to simulate the fact that real Haerys would not see himself as an heir and even though he might ask to be given Dragonstone, nobody would see it as tyrannical if Valarr refused, because Aegon is Prince of Dragonstone.
3. After I die and Haerys becomes a king, I will save the game, use console to give all titles to Aegon and edit save file to change history of the Iron Throne to reflect how this would happen in the world of ASoIaF instead of how this would happen in mechanics of the game Crusader Kings 2.

In eight month, Daenys once again tried to tame a dragon and now succeeded.

And later that year, in eleventh month, dowager queen Daenys gave an egg from Dreamfyre to her daughter Rhalla, who was able to hatch it, unlike her first one.

In fourth month of next year, he was approached by Roslin Tully, who was on verge of rebelling against Willard Reyne, to once again claim Riverlands for her house. She asked the king to decide who should rule the Trident, supporting her claim by her ancestral right, but to her surprise, he sided with lord Willard. She returned home and raised her flags in rebellion.
In fifth month, High Septon died and few months later, lady Massey died, leaving her son, Qoherys Velaryon, to inherit her lands.
In ninth month, Tywle Sarsfield became unable to fulfill his duties in the Small Council, due to becoming incapable because of his old age. At the same time, little Aegon was suffering terrible flu. Luckily, Grand Maester was able to help him and the boy eventually recovered.
In twelfth month, lord Tywle finally died in his bed.

In third month of year 195, news came from Oldtown. Apparently, members of the Faith dug up High Septon´s corpse from his grave, so he could stand trial for all his sins. People in Red Keep started talking how barbaric it was and how grateful they were to Targaryens for keeping these fanatics far away.

Two months later, Valarr´s daughter became adult.

In eight month, his wife organized tourney in Dragonstone and king agreed to come and try his luck once again.
Month later, as people were gathering on Dragonstone, he got message from lord Qoherys, who, just like his mother, had to deal with attack from Tommen Baratheon. Starting to lose patience with lord of Stormlands, Valarr wrote to him, reminding him that lord Qoherys is married to a woman, who not only rides dragon into battle, but is also king´s sister. And if his troops somehow managed to kill the dragon together with his sister, king would happily come to Storm´s End with many more and following example set by the Conqueror, create new cursed ruin made out of melted stone.
Lord Baratheon marched back to Storm´s End, just like little white-haired shit he was and Qoherys was free to travel to the tourney.
During the tourney, Valarr once again had to fight against lord Qoherys, who after thanking him for dealing with his Baratheon issue, congratulating him on being strong king and saying how much he respected him, wished him good luck and said he would not try to hit him too hard.
During the tourney, message came from the east, where another man was thought to be a reborn dragon. Once again, Targaryens laughed and now even sent a message back, telling him to fly to Westeros, so he could claim female to ensure his legacy.
But then, just as the tourney was coming to its end, different kind of message came from the Reach, more specifically areas north of Oldtown. This one truly scared everyone, for older people still remembered stories their grandparents told them when they were young. Stories of the biggest horror people have known since the Long Night.

Chapter 34: The lion rises

Sickness started to spread quickly and in few months, most of southern Reach was affected by it. Another outbreak occured on southern shores of Westerlands.
Spoiler: show

Valarr and his vassals answered with quarantine. Guards were put on borders of infected areas and whoever tried to escape was killed.
Yet despite these troubling times, lord Sarsfield chose to attack Riverlands, trying to take Hornvale. What was even more surprising was that when he was commanded to lay down his arms, he refused. King´s men sent after him were able to imprison him.
Many believed he would be sent to the Wall, but instead, Valarr chose to execute him. He was beheaded and his little son became Lord Paramount of Westerlands.

Few days before end of the year, his daughter Daenys gave birth to a son.

Next year, pox spread throughout the Dorne and even reached Stormlands. Fortunately, Great sickness was halted and while Lannisport and Oldtown suffered, the rest of Westeros was safe from it.
In eight month, terrible thing happened. Rhaenyra, his wife, was found dead in her bed, her throat slit. Nobody was able to find out the murderer.
Spoiler: show

Dragonstone went back to the king, which happened for the first time in decades. Yet Valarr did not care and started drinking excessively, to drown his sorrow. Small Council took over most of his responsibilities.
While in the North, some of vassals were rebelling and sicknesses still plagued southern realms, overall years 197 and 198 were known as peaceful. At the beginning of year 197, Rhaelinor Targaryen, sister of former king Aethon and wife to Tommen Baratheon, died. At the end of year 198, Great sickness started disappearing. In fourth month of year 199, both Grand Maester and High Septon died. New High Septon would then only last for less than two years.
But few months later, surprising news came from Dragonstone.
Spoiler: show

Question arose, what should be done with this. Unwritten law from time of queen Aerea was clear: Only Targaryens and their close family was allowed to ride dragons. Septa Cymella was neither, although she was member of House Velaryon and daughter of Lady Paramount of the Vale. In the end, Small Council chose to not punish her, but she had to move to the Red Keep, to serve the king.
In fifth month of year 200, Alyssa Karstark died of dysentery. Her infant daughter succeeded her.

In the meantime, king was spending a lot of time with his sister Rhalla, who also lost her husband years ago (with little help from Valarr). Eventually, he started thinking she might fancy him, but his loyalty to his dead wife was much stronger, not to mention that Rhalla was still mourning her dead husband.
In tenth month, Karyl Thorne, minor lord from Crownlands, who was imprisoned by the king, demanded trial by combat. Valarr, eager to meet his wife once again, chose to fight against his champion personally. Next day, he stood against ser Kedge on the courtyard and just as the fight started, he attacked the knight, with no regard for his own safety. To his surprise, ser Kedge was unable to defend himself and the fight was over in few short seconds. King was victorious. Lord Karyl was beheaded immediately afterwards.
In first month of the next year, message came from the Vale. Regent (and heir) of Lord Paramount Reynard Sarsfield ordered to attack the Vale on behalf of his lord. And when he was told to stand down, he refused. What he did not expect was arrival of king´s men, who took the young boy with themselves and ordered him to sign documents saying that fighting should end.
Due to inobedience of House Sarsfield, Valarr chose to take away Westerlands from them, although allowed young lord to keep the rest of his titles. He was also kept as a hostage in Red Keep, to make sure nobody will try to reclaim his lands in his name. Afterwards, Valarr chose new lord of Westerlands: Tywell Lannister, lord of Lannisport, from line of Lannisters from Lannisport. Thus, House Lannister has returned to rule its former lands, although only its minor line, as Lannisters from Casterly rock died out decades ago.
Spoiler: show
Image

While the king did not revoke any more titles from Reynard Sarsfield, lord Lannister did. Lordship of Casterly Rock was taken from him, although the Rock itself was already controlled by Riverlands.
In fourth month of year 201, lord Lothor Boggs, minor lord from Crackclaw Point, willingly surrendered himself to the Faith after they demanded him to stand trial for his sins.
In sixth month, another son was born to his daughter, Daenys.
Spoiler: show

Lord Lannister was attacked by lord Baratheon in seventh month and after another threat from the king, lord Baratheon ceased hostilities.
At the same time, group of men was caught in Red Keep, trying to rescue young lord Sarsfield from his chambers. They were executed and young lord remained in the Red Keep.
Month later, Night´s Watch elected new Lord Commander, lowborn Northman called Theodan.
And then, in ninth month, another group of men, employed by ser Loren, courtier of lord Sarsfield, succeeded. After talk with his council, Valarr chose not to imprison the boy again, but made sure that everyone in the realm knew the king himself ordered him released and that talks about Sarsfield men sneaking into Red Keep were just rumors.
To ensure loyalty of young lord (and, according to rumors, to make sure no more men get into Red Keep, now with orders to kill Targaryens instead of rescuing Sarsfields), king arranged bethrohal between his son Haerys and aunt of lord Sarsfield. Her Valyrian features, inherited from her Targaryen ancestor were also good reason for this marriage.

Only week later, Haerys tamed a dragon.

Grand Maester Beldecar died in third month of year 202 and was replaced by Archmaester Benedict. Few months later, new Grand Maester informed the king that his grandson from his daughter, Gaemon, is showing signs of extraordinary intelligence.
In eight month, lord Florent was facing rebellion after he tried to revoke castle of Longtable from his vassal and at the same time, Maiden´s Men, knightly order, lead by man from House Bywater, inherited their ancient castle. While Valarr accepted this change, he could not agree with the independence.

Short war put them back into the place, with royal army obliterating their meager force of four thousand.
In tenth month, king was faced with interresting proposal.
Image
He chose to accept after his Master of Coin vouched for him.
In twelfth month, he arranged bethrohal between Gaemon, son of Daenys, and Aelora Velaryon, daughter of lord Qoherys Velaryon and king´s sister.
Grand Maester Benedict died in seventh month of year 203 and was replaced by Maester Harstan. At the same time, message came from Dragonstone.
Image
And only month later, Citadel informed lords that winter was coming to its end. In ninth month, Haerys finished his studies and became one of the most learned men in Westeros, with exception of Maesters.
Spoiler: show

In tenth month, another egg hatched, now for Gaemon.
Spoiler: show

And only six months later, his grandchild, Rhaenys, tamed Gogorkos.
Spoiler: show

With so many family members around, Valarr finally started feeling better and getting over death of his wife. But more troubles arose, as his son asked him to duel his rival, Devan. Fearing possible loss of another of his sons, he refused.
Yet despite his efforts to keep everyone safe, he could not do it for one person. In ninth month, his mother, Daenys, died at the age of 73, being the oldest Targaryen since times of the Conqueror. All lords of the realm were invited to her funeral.
Spoiler: show

For those who still remember Vaella and her brothers, yes, Daemion was her father. The only remaining Targaryens from Line of Aegon are now daughter of king Aenar (Jaenara) and her bastard son, with whom this line ends (as he is married matrilineally and is, well, bastard, I don´t consider his sons to be continuation of Aegon´s line, but members of Alysanne´s line).
