Chapter 35: Stag makes its move

Lords started coming, but even their arrival was not without tragedys. Willard Reyne, Lord Paramount of Riverlands, died of gonorrhea. With both his sons dead, his closest male relative became new lord.
Spoiler: show

Even during funeral, he was not left alone by various nobles. He had to decide multiple disputes and even imprison some nobles who were guilty of crimes against others.
In the end, his mother was burned and everyone went back home.
What followed were trials of Larys Butterwell, lord of Pyke, who was convicted of murder. He was found guilty and sent to the Wall. Old Amalia Oakheart was not so lucky and was executed for the same crime.
At the beginning of next year, High Septon passed away. And later, in third month, news came from Free Cities.
Spoiler: show

In tenth month, lord Baratheon once again tried to take lands from Qoherys Velaryon and was once again ordered by the king to stop.
New High Septon did not live long and died in fourth month of year 206, only one year after he was crowned. At the same time, lord Reyne declared war against lord Lannister, to humiliate him because of old feud of their houses.
To even add to problems of House Lannister, lord Tywell succumbed to grey plague two weeks later.
Spoiler: show
Image

Ravens flew to castle of lord Reyne, ordering him to lay down his arms or face king´s wrath. He accepted.
In sixth month, Valarr´s granddaughter, Rhaenys, became adult, followed by Sarya Sarsfield, wife of her uncle, Haerys.
Spoiler: show
Image

In second month of year 207, septons from Oldtown dug up corpse of previous High Septon and held trial to convict him of his many crimes. He was thrown into river afterwards as a punishment.
In fourth month, lord Baratheon declared war on young lord Lannister and few months later, lord Reyne declared war on lady Velaryon.
Lord Reyne obeyed king´s command to cease hostilities, but lord Baratheon chose otherwise. After years of obeying his commands and angering the king, he was finally willing to defy House Targaryen.
He was imprisoned and fed to Valarr´s dragon. His grandson succeeded him.
Spoiler: show
Image

In the meantime, Rhaenys was wed to prince Aegon, who tamed Fenrion shortly afterwards.
Even more good news came in form of pregnancy of Sarya Sarsfield.
Only four days later, in eight month of year 207, Conen Baratheon followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and attacked lord Lannister. This time, men who were sent by the king were unsuccessful to capture disobeying lor and he officially rose in rebellion against the throne.

Baratheon rebellion
Reynes, Florents and Velaryons immediately joined, while Lannisters started preparations for war.
In ninth month, Sarya gave birth to stillborn son.
Spoiler: show
Image

In tenth month, army twentysix thousand strong marched from King´s Landing, being lead by the king himself and his children, Haerys and Daenys.
In eleventh month, they entered Stormlands. Meanwhile, in King´s Landing, Rhaenys became pregnant.
They reached Storm´s End at the end of the month and Targaryens unleashed their dragons. Yet they underestimated the castle and overestimated their dragons, who were nowhere near the size and power of Balerion when he burned Harrenhal (although Dreamfyre, now known as „the Dark Fire“, which was not present in the attack, was now bigger than Meraxes at the time of her death).
With castle still well defended and resources of surrounding land being sparse, Valarr abandoned the siege and retreated north. He also sent Haerys back to King´s Landing, to take command over army half the size of main Targaryen army and bring them to Stormlands. Valarr then started chasing Baratheon army ten thousand strong, which was south of his position, marching to the capital.
They met at the end of first month of year 208. Baratheon force was obliterated and Valarr once again set out to Storm´s End.
He unleashed his dragon, Jaharix, once again and now managed to heavily damage the castle while his men assaulted it. Storm´s End fell. Most members of House Baratheon were captured with it and lord Baratheon surrendered to keep them safe.

By royal decree, Valarr revoked Stormlands and even lordship of Shipbreaker´s Bay from him and after founding him guilty of treason on trial, he ordered lord Baratheon to be hung, drawn and quartered, to show the realm what happens to those who dare defy Targaryens. Although, his son was allowed to keep Storm´s End.
Lyonel Connington was named new Lord Paramount of Stormlands.
Spoiler: show
Image

In fifth month, Rhaenys gave birth to twins.
Spoiler: show

Image

In twelfth month, young Brus Baratheon rebelled against lord Lyonel. And on first day of year 209, white raven arrived from the Citadel. Winter came.
Not willing to allow lord Baratheon to gain any victory against lord Connington, he ordered him to stand down. Wiser than his predecessors, he chose to obey the king.
This was the last act of king Valarr Targaryen. As the weather became more harsh, he also became weaker and at the beginning of second month, only few days after he got message from lord Baratheon, he started spending whole days in his bed. He was visited by his grandson and granddaughter quite often, being shown their twin boys.
He died peacefully in his sleep on twentieth day of second month of year 209. He was almost sixty years old and reigned for more than thirtytwo years.

Slightly shorter chapter, but for obvious reasons (previous would be too long and it is good to end with death of the king). As I said before, because of game mechanics, Haerys becomes king, but I will edit everything, so Aegon will inherit the Iron Throne as he should if it happened in "real" history.
Hopefully he will have to face some serious rebellions from his relatives, because this long peace is quite boring and there are already enough Targaryens and dragons for proper Dance.

Chapter 36: White of hair

Spoiler: show
Image

Death of king Valarr came at unfortunate time. Only few days earlier, prince Aegon flew south on Fenrion, planning to participate in tourney at Hollard Hall. Therefore, organization of late king´s funeral was handled by prince Haerys.
Although, as young Aegon was not legally adult, his sister-wife Rhaenys became officially regent (although in fact they ruled together, as despite not being considered to be adult, the king was old and qualified enough to take care of his duties). New Grand Maester was also appointed, Riverman named Harstyn.
In the tourney, Aegon defeated ser Durance of the Kingsguard (who accompanied him and also chose to participate), but was later wounded by ser Alaric, another of his opponents, who later won the whole tourney.
Despite his wounds, Aegon flew back to King´s Landing, to attend funeral of his grandfather and be crowned as the king.
Image
At the end of fifth month, his wound became infected and whole realm started whispering how young king may not rule for even a year. Most of these rumors were spread by ser Aenar Flowers and his wife and some courtiers even started whispering how they might be planning to take the throne themselves.
In seventh month, peasants rose in Riverlands, but were quickly defeated by soldiers of House Reyne, sent there, under command of ser Aenar on his dragon.
In eight month, king reached adulthood and assumed rule over his realm. He became quite competent diplomat, although he was sometimes filled with anger, which Aethon and his friends saw as sign of Targaryen madness.
In the meantime, Dothraki in Essos conquered Qohor and lands of the Rhoynar .
Spoiler: show
Image

In third month, his wife revealed to him her pregnancy. Yet Aegon saw it to be quite suspicious, as they did not spend so much time together because of his continuing health problems. He talked to his Master of Whisperers and sent few spies after her, but they were able to reveal nothing. In the end, he accepted that she was indeed carrying his child.
In fifth month, Aegon got message from lady Jasonnei Tudbury, who asked for king´s agreement to marry her son to girl from House Selmy. Aegon, just like other kings of his line before him, ordered to allow lords and ladies to marry without the need to ask permission from the king, stating he will never exercise right of the First Night.
(and yes, that law is still a thing in my playthrough, as there was no Jaehaerys and Alysanne to cancel it and Aerea simply did not care...basically, I forgot to even change it and just rolled with it)
In sixth month, High Septon passed away and Nymella Ladybright, woman from Dorne, conquered Ironoaks from lady Velaryon. Yet she still wished to remain vassal of king Aegon. He accepted this situation, but immediately wrote document stating lady Ladybright will henceforth be vassal of lady Velaryon, who in turn immediately demanded lady Ladybright to return lands she „stole“. Lady Ladybright was forced to rise up against her, to protect her lands.
In tenth month, Rhaenys gave birth to healthy daughter, who was immediately bethrohed to prince Jacaerys.
Spoiler: show
Image

And in second month of year 211, after only few months after being elected, High Septon died, continuing long tradition of High Septons. Month later, in fourth month, winter ended.
Close to the end of eight month, lord Connington died and was succeeded by his son, who at that time was bedridden from his serious gonorrhea.
Spoiler: show
Image

His regent chose to attack Adderdell, which was by law part of Stormlands, but was de facto independent from them. Aegon chose to allow Conningtons to capture this castle, as he did not want to anger them.
Yet problems did not come from Conningtons, but instead from his own family. Few days before the end of tenth month, five dragons rose from the Dragonpit. Aenar Flowers lead them on Sunshine, biggest dragon in the world with the exception of Dreamfyre, and he was followed by his wife, Daenys on Fornaxes and their son, Gaemon, on Smaugon. After them came Rhalla, sister of king Valarr, on Gorthalon, and even septa Cymella Velaryon on Anogarenos.
Nobody dared to say anything before spies proved it, but everyone knew what was the reason behind this. Aenar surely planned to win the throne in the war, and took with him his family, including his younger son, who did not have his own dragon yet. Five out of nine dragonriders were gone and few weeks later, Aegon´s spies in Essos informed him that Aethon is gathering men to attack the king, just as he suspected.
On top of that, lord Reyne attacked lord Lannister, but luckily chose to obey Aegon´s orders and agreed to stop once the king asked him to.
Twentyeight day of eleventh month, one month after dragonriders left, all lords of the realm were informed that Aenar Flowers, only true heir of king Aenar Targaryen, will take the Iron Throne from unlawful king, Aegon Targaryen.
Aegon did not believe anyone would join bastard son of septa, but he was proven wrong. Bethany Stark, Owen Florent and Rhaeys Velaryon declared for him and Volmarks, Reynes and Lannisters chose to not participate. Thus started Second Dance of Dragons.

Overview - 211 AC
Spoiler: show
Image

(You merely adopted the bordergore. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn´t see nice borders until I was already a man)

Wars
Second Dance of Dragons

In last years of reign of king Aenar Targaryen, question of succession arose. As all of his male heirs were dead, Great Council was called to King´s Landing. In the end, Aethon Targaryen, descendant of Alysanne Targaryen, was chosen as Aenar´s heir. Yet surprisingly, few years later, Jaenara, daughter of king Aenar and septa, gave birth to a child. Boy, named Aenar, was later brought to court of Aethon´s son, king Valarr. Valarr liked the boy so much he even chose to marry him to his daughter (although he did not legitimize him). Everything was alright while Valarr lived, but as soon as his grandson became king, whispers started to surround Aenar. In the end, he gained support of half of the realm and even multiple other dragonriders when he declared his intent to claim the Iron Throne.
Rebels have superior numbers, as king is not supported by any major house except Baratheons, while rebels have support from multiple Lords Paramount. Meanwhile, loyalists have overall stronger dragons, with another four chained in the Dragonpit, waiting to be tamed (including Dreamfyre „the Dark Fire“, oldest living dragon in the world).

Targaryens, dragons and dragonriders
Loyalists
Young king of the Seven Kingdoms, Aegon is troubled with old wound from tourney. Despite this, he is willing to lead his armies in battle, not only because he is their king, but also because he rides the most powerful tamed dragon loyalists have, Fenrion.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

His sister-wife, Rhaenys, is also dragonrider and rides the most powerful of younger dragons (although phrase „younger dragon“ simply reffers to dragons born after Dance of Dragons), Gorgorkos.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

They have three children together, twins Jacaerys and Maegor and younger daughter, Aelora, who is bethrohed to Jacaerys.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image
Image

Their mother is also still alive, but unfortunately, she has never tamed a dragon in her life. Question is, whether civil war will be good enough reason to descend to Dragonpit and tame a dragon of her own.
Spoiler: show
Image

Haerys, younger son of king Valarr, also remained loyal, despite his sister´s treachery. He wields sword Dark Sister and also owns dragon egg, which he is yet to give to someone. He rides dragon Aemax (which is actually the oldest of „younger dragons“, but not the biggest).
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

Daella Targaryen, sister of late king Valarr, is married to lord Qoherys Velaryon, with whom she has three children. She, just like her oldest son, Jaekar, came to King´s Landing as soon as Aenar declared his war, to aid their king. She rides dragon Zalagys, smallest of loyalist dragons.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

Rebels
Rebellious Targaryens are lead by Aenar Flowers, bastard who wants to become a king, claiming he, as a descendant of king Aenar, is true ruler of Westeros. He rides dragon Sunshine, biggest tamed dragon in the world.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

His wife is Daenys Targaryen, daughter of king Valarr, she is disfigured from dragonfire. Yet despite her bad luck, she was able to tame second dragon, Fornaxes.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

They have two children together, older Gaemon and younger Baelor. Gaemon is also a dragonrider, as he was able to hatch his egg. Due to his young age (and young age of his dragon), he does not participate in the fighting yet.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image
Image

Who knows, how long Rhalla Targaryen suspected Valarr was behind death of her brother and husband. While she could not take revenge on Valarr, she can at least destroy his heir in favor of Aenar. She rides Gorthalon, another smaller dragon.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

Among surprising Aenar´s allies is Cymella Velaryon, septa who managed to tame dragon Anogaregros and lived in Targaryen court since then. She is the main reason why lady Velaryon, her mother, supports rebels.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image

Neutral
Jaenara Targaryen, mother of Aenar Flowers, is simply too old to contribute to the fighting in any way. And as High Septon chose to stay neutral in this war, he would not even be willing to allow her to be taken to king´s custody.
Spoiler: show
Image

Untamed dragons
Spoiler: show
Image

Dreamfyre "the Dark Fire" is the only living dragon that lived during Targaryen Civil War. She had many riders over the decades and participated in many battles. She is also impressive in size, being bigger than even Meraxes at the time of her death.
Spoiler: show
Image

Other dragons have yet to become well known to history, as due to decades of peace, they could only participate in smaller rebellions against Targaryen rule, which were quickly destroyed. All of these dragons are almost the same age, two of them even being children of Dreamfyre herself.
Spoiler: show
Image
Image
Image

Great houses
Loyalists
House Connington
Given Stormlands in the last years of king Valarr´s rule, they allowed Targaryens to use their resources. Yet due to severe sickness of lord Florian, he is not leading his own armies and instead relies on Targaryens to command troops he provides.
Spoiler: show
Image

Rebels
House Florent
They have been rulers of Reach for more than 100 years. During all this time, they never rebelled against Targaryen kings and have been in control of their lands for longer than any other great house.
Spoiler: show
Image

House Velaryon of the Vale
Lady Paramount Rhaeys Velaryon was given Vale by Targaryen kings. Yet remaining loyal and thankful for acts of someone´s ancestors is hard when your own daughter joins their enemies.
Spoiler: show
Image

House Stark
Many thought Starks were thing of the past, especially since last of their house, Sybelle Stark, did not have any Stark children. But all of those were forgetting that Karstarks, who ruled the North, were descendants of Starks and the only reason why their name was different was because they chose it that way. Once lady Bethany Karstark became adult, she chose to change this and informed everyone that from now on, members of House Karstark will accept their heritage and will restore House Stark.
(Yes, that happened without any notification and I only found out about it while writing this overview. What most likely happened was that Sybelle Stark, who for some reason rules Moat Cailin, was able to use decision to legitimize Karstarks, because she was a ruler. And as she was the last member of her house, she did exactly that. So, House Stark that became unlanded about century ago and was on verge of extinction was benevolent enough to allow House Karstark that ruled the North for that century, to be members of this great house)

Neutral
House Lannister of Lannisport
Less prestigious branch of this house, but also the only remaining since extinction of House Lannister of Casterly Rock. They were given Westerlands after Sarsfields chose to disobey king´s orders and were punished because of that. Yet when time came to aid the king, they remained silent.
Spoiler: show
Image

House Reyne
Trident has always been the least stable of lands in Westeros and this only continued once Targaryens took over. Other kingdoms changed owners, but these created their own lines of Lords Paramount and stability (besides occassional attempts to take original lands of their realms back) continued. In Riverlands, houses changed every few decades. Now, House Reyne rules these lands (and half of Iron Islands), but who knows whether they will keep them.
Spoiler: show
Image

House Volmark
Iron Islands were always more important because of trouble they caused to other kingdoms instead of their own greatness. And when Targaryens came and ended their reaving, they slowly became less and less important. While House Volmark firmly controls these islands, it is not because of their power but simply because Iron Islands can´t even be called Iron Islands anymore. Only Harlaw, Saltcliffe and western two thirds of Great Wyk remain. All other islands are now part of Riverlands, their people actually happy because they can enjoy benefits of being connected to rich lands on the mainland instead of trying to take care of themselves. And just like many times before, Volmarks chose to stay neutral, and just like many times before, nobody really cares.

Chapter 37: So it begins

Ravens were sent to lords of Crownlands, asking them to send men to King´s Landing. Yet the king was presented with one problem: Conningtons. They did not fully commit to Aegon´s cause, but gathered army of twelve thousand in Storm´s End. After long talks between Targaryen dragonriders, Haerys was sent there on top of Aemax, to take command over these men and bring them to King´s Landing. In the meantime, remaining three dragonriders remained in the capital, to protect it from attacks.
Yet only few weeks later, in twelfth month, Aegon changed his decision. Due to inheritance, Stokeworth became part of the Reach decades ago and was now held by hostile forces. Combined with lack of food from Reach itself due to their rebellion and uncertain supplies from neutral Riverlands, Aegon chose to attack the castle and conquer it, to provide food for the Red Keep in case of food shortage. He departed King´s Landing with more than nine thousand men, while Rhaenys and Daella remained in the city.
He arrived there at the beginning of first month of next year and dealt with small army that was moving south, to meet with main Florent force. Afterwards, he unleashed Fenrion on the castle itself, but was not willing to fully destroy it. Weakening defense and morale of the defenders, he besieged it.
At the same time, he sent message to Haerys, ordering his uncle to change his course and meet with Florent army (which was the only force capable of reaching King´s Landing in short time, as both Vale and North were too far away to provide any support to Aenar´s personal troops in first months of the war). His spies also informed him about Aenar´s movement. Fleet of more than two hundred ships was seen sailing around Stepstones, being too strong even for pirates, who were unified few years ago.
In second month, Aenar´s fleet passed Dragonstone and arrived into Blackwater Bay. Seeing that attack on the capital is likely, Aegon flew Fenrion back to King´s Landing, ordering his army to break off the siege.
Fifth day of third month of year 212 AC, army of Aenar Flowers, sixteen thousand strong, landed in mouth of Blackwater Rush.
Image

Battle of King´s Landing
Mud Gate was the first to come under assault. And just as royal army, thirteen thousand strong, was attacking rebels to relieve pressure from the gate and rebel and royal fleets clashed in the bay, six dragons rose into the sky. Aenar, riding Sunshine, was supported by his wife, Daenys, on Fornaxes and by Rhalla Targaryen on Gorthalon. And leading loyalist dragonriders was king Aegon Targaryen himself, on top of Fenrion, sibling of Sunshine. With him was his wife Rhaenys, riding Gorgorkos, and Daella Targaryen-Velaryon on Zalagys.
Without a word, Aegon immediately flew Fenrion towards Sunshine, trying to kill Aenar. Giant dragons clashed while the smaller ones were circling around each other below them. Smaller and weaker Fenrion was struggling to keep up with his golden brother.
Underneath, Fornaxes was locked in fight with Zalagys. At the same time, Gorthalon was overpowered by Gorgorkos and Rhalla had to disengage to survive. Instead of following her, Rhaenys moved her dragon to attack Fornaxes. When Daenys saw him, it was too late.
Spoiler: show
https://s2.postimg.org/ygnkjs3ll/ck2_21.png

Fornaxes crashed into King Aethon, flagship of royal fleet, quickly falling to the bottom of Blackwater Bay. Daenys Targaryen, daughter of king Valarr and wife to Aenar Flowers, died with her dragon.
Aenar saw fall of his wife. Mad with anger, he directed Sunshine directly towards Gorgorkos. Aegon immediately followed him. Luckily for him, Fenrion was quicker than Sunshine and hit the bigger dragon from behind. Yet Sunshine was able to free himself and pursuit quickly turned into fight for survival. Rhaenys tried to help her husband, but it was too late. Sunshine locked its jaws around Fenrion´s neck and tore it open. Screaming in agony, white dragon kicked Sunshine into stomach and freed himself. Unable to maintain flight, he fell down, on shore underneath the Red Keep. Miraculously, Aegon survived his dragon´s landing, but was forced to watch what followed.
Sunshine attacked Gorgorkos while Gorthalon returned into the fight, ambushing Zalagys. Fight between two smaller dragons was not long. Gorthalon tore off left wing of Zalagys, sending the black dragon down, into mouth of Blackwater Bay.
Spoiler: show
Image

All that remained was Gorgorkos. Both Sunshine and Gorthalon attacked it at the same time and while Rhaenys was able to fend off Sunshine, Gorthalon came from the above. Red dragon fell, crashing down into one wings of Dragonpit. It never rose again from the ruined structure.
Spoiler: show
Image

Yet while loyalist dragonrider lost the battle, army of rebels was defeated and had to return to their ships, which also were not able to break through defensive lines of royal fleet further up the river. Fearing that further fighting could provoke untamed dragons from damaged Dragonpit to attack them, he ordered retreat. Only after he met with his commanders he found out they were able to capture mangled Daella Targaryen when she was unconscious after her dragon fell.
At the same time, on the shore beneath Aegon´s High Hill, Fenrion drew his last breath.

Chapter 38: The Dark Fire

„I came here to support you as my liege. I gave everything I had and this is how you repay me? My wife is dead and you want me to send my son to face the same fate?“
„Her body was not found with Zalagys,“ responded Rhaelle, „she may still be alive, imprisoned by the rebels. And don´t forget that king also lost his wife and I lost my daughter.“
„It is great honor to be allowed to ride a dragon, lord Qoherys,“ said Aegon, sitting in his chair while Grand Maester was bandaging his wounds, „your son will be one of few Velaryons ever to be allowed to tame one. He will bring glory to your house.“
„Fuck the glory. You took my wife from me, but you won´t take my son too,“ said Qoherys Velaryon.
„Aenar Flowers took your wife,“ corrected him Aegon, „he rebelled against his rightful king and started this war. Never forget that.“
„I don´t care. Jaekar will not go to Dragonpit, just to die fighting in your war like his mother did.“
„You disobey your king, lord Qoherys?“ asked Aegon.
„No. I just choose to return to my lands together with my heir, where he will be safer than in the capital,“ responded Qoherys and left the room.

Qoherys Velaryon left the city two days after the battle. Fearing other vassals would widthraw their support if he did anything against him, Aegon let him go, together with his son. In the meantime, walls of the city were being repaired and army was preparing to depart south, towards Farring Cross, where twelve thousand Florent men besieged the castle.
Seeing that despite their victory, loyalists were weakened due to loss of three dragons, Aegon went to Dragonpit. Decaying body of Gorgorkos was still buried beneath the rubble of western part of the structure, but luckily all three untamed dragons were kept in the eastern part.
He was in there through the night and just as sun rose in the east, giant black dragon rose from Dragonpit.

From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„Since they were young, children in Westeros were being told stories about great herose of the past and their victories. All girls wanted to be like queen Rhaena, who fought against evil Maegor and when boys were playing with sticks, the most prestigious role was that of prince Daemion. And everyone knew about Great Rebellion, when queen Aerea rode her dragon to fight and burn her enemies. All these stories had one thing in common: Dreamfyre „the Dark Fire“. At this time, she was just as legendary as Balerion, Vhagar or Meraxes (and bigger than any Targaryen dragon except „the Black Dread“). While she was extremely old and thus slower and Sunshine was in fact almost as huge, simply her presence heavily increased the morale of soldiers and commoners alike. Seeing her fly over King´s Landing, being ridden by the young king made everyone forget the battle that happened only two weeks ago.“

Yet other people were not so persuaded. Lord Connington officially widthrew his support at the beginning of fourth month. Despite this, his army was faced with slight problem: Haerys Targaryen. It was nice to know that lord Connington south in Stormlands ordered them to return home, but vision of spoils of war and presence of dragonrider meant they happily continued to follow king´s orders.
While Haerys was confident his troops will remain loyal, Aegon was not willing to risk it. He ordered his uncle to return to King´s Landing and combine his army with king´s.
Twentieth day of fourth month, Haerys arrived. Together, loyalist army had thirtyeight thousand men. Aegon chose to use them and marched his army to Farring Cross.
When they arrived at the end of the month, they met with army of House Florent, almost thirty thousand strong. Their scouts also reported that another army, six thousand strong, was on their way. Aegon ordered his men to attack.
Spoiler: show
Image

It was a slaughter. Despite arrival of reinforcements, which made both armies equal in size, Reachmen had no chance. Dreamfyre killed thousands of them and after an hour, Florent army scattered. They were even able to capture captain Cormond, leader of Sellsword Infantry. He gladly shared everything he could about rebels. As it turned out, there was disagreement in their ranks. Lord Florent wanted to attack King´s Landing again, while Aenar believed they had to retreat to the south and draw Aegon out, while Velaryons and Starks combine their forces and take King´s Landing, now unprotected by loyalist dragonriders. In the end, Aenar went south alone, planning to besiege Adderdell, loyalist castle in Stormlands, while Florents were to remain where they were and guard entrance to the Reach.
Chance to ambush Aenar while he did not have support of traitorous lords was too good for Aegon to pass. And now, with Florents defeated, he could split his army into two parts and keep King´s Landing safe from attacks.
More than eighteen thousand men were sent north, under command of Maelor Velaryon, lord of Driftmark and another nineteen thousand moved south, under command of Aegon and Haerys.
In sixth month, army from the Vale arrived to Crownlands. Lord Velaryon chose to depart from the capital and meet them in field before they meet with Starks. Yet their army was able to outmaneuver loyalist forces and managed to reach Stokeworth while loyalists were north of Rosby. At the same time, another army, twelve thousand strong, besieged Antlers. Citizens of King´s Landing could only look as almost twelve thousand Valemen besieged their city, while lord Velaryon quickly marched his men south, to save the capital. They arrived at the beginning of eight month and defeated host of Rhaeys Velaryon in what later became known as Battle of Two Seahorses.
Spoiler: show

In south, Aenar captured Adderdell. While his army was resting, his scouts brought him news about loyalist army, eighteen thousand strong, few days of march from his gates. He was also informed about presence of Dreamfyre and Aemax in Aegon´s host.
Luckily for him, Cymella Velaryon arrived at the same time, increasing number of available dragons to three. Knowing he had an advantage over loyalist dragonriders, he chose to engage them in battle.

Battle of Adderdell
Spoiler: show

Two armies met at the end of seventh month. Loyalists cheered as Dreamfyre was flying over them, her shadow covering hundreds of men. On the opposite side, Sunshine, Gorthalon and Anogaregros rose.
Dreamfyre and Sunshine clashed. Black dragon immediately got the upper hand and terrified Aenar flew his beast away, while Rhalla and Cymella used their dragons to distract Dreamfyre. Yet just as he disengaged, Aemax attacked Sunshine and wounded one of his wings.
Rebels also gained small victory, when Gorthalon managed to lock its jaws around Dreamfyre´s tail, wounding her.
Although Aemax was half the size of Sunshine, he was able to outmaneuver the older dragon and in one lucky moment, locked its jaws around his neck. Sunshine screamed in agony and while he was able to free himself, he started losing a lot of blood. Maimed dragon could barely keep himself in the air and Aenar had to watch with horror as Aemax flew above him and descended upon helpless Sunshine.

Immediately afterwards, he directed Aemax towards Anogaregros and before Cymella could realize what was happening, he dragon was locked in fight with Haerys´s beast. Luckily for her, Anogaregros did not suffer any serious injuries and Aemax let him go before they could cause any more harm.
But while Anogaregros was occupied, Gorthalon managed to get into lucky position. He aimed his fire at the head of Dreamfyre and Aegon did not have time to evade him.

His flames reached to king´s saddle and not only burned half of Aegon´s face, but also partially blinded Dreamfyre. She had no time to evade his next attack, which caused severe harm to her belly. She flew away just in time for Aemax to attack wounded Gorthalon. Locked in fight, both dragons caused injuries to the other. Seeing Dreamfyre turning around to attack them, Aemax freed himself just in time to leave his severely injured sibling to their mother.

Seeing death of Sunshine and Gorthalon, Cymella turned her dragon and fled the battle. With her came scattered remnants of Aenar´s force, which lost more than three thousand men in the fight, compared to loyalist one thousand. Surprisingly, they also carried away injured Rhalla Targaryen, who survived fall of her dragon.
But just as wounded rebels were being killed, loyalists found barely breathing man partially buried underneath the corpse of Sunshine. After being told about this, Aegon ordered Adderdell´s maester to do everything he can to save the man. After all, he wanted his uncle to die by his hand, not by being crushed beneath the body of his dragon.

Note: This does not mean the war is over. As you may know, I am not really a fan of CK2´s mechanics in terms of war, especially in this mod, because it would literally make some scenarios from the books impossible (Eddard is imprisoned and his regent, Robb, can´t declare war, because Eddard is imprisoned, for example). So, the war will continue, because it makes sense to continue. Cymella and other Targaryen rebels are still alive, just like their dragons.

Chapter 39: Tumbleton

From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„Rebels were in absolute disarray. Not only did they lose two battles, but also two of their dragons, including Sunshine. And on top of that, Aenar himself was captured. But just like cornered animal, they chose to fight.
After all, their situation was not that bad. Despite failing to capture the capital in Battle of King´s Landing, they managed to kill three of loyalist dragons. And even though they lost in Adderdell, Gorthalon managed to cause severe wounds to Dreamfyre. Greatest dragon of loyalists was almost blind and did not have enough strength to even fly. Once again they were left with only Aemax, while rebels had two dragons, Anogaregros and young Smaugon, dragon of Aenar´s son, Gaemon. And even despite their defeats, they had superior numbers. Their only problem was sheer distance between their armies, something which Cymella Velaryon planned to solve.“

Aegon stayed in Adderdell for few weeks, during which he got message from the capital, informing him about victory in Battle of Two Seahorses. His scouts also brought him news about fifteen hundred men landing close to Crow´s Nest in the east of Adderdell.
Image
Scouts reported they have seen Aenar´s flags and even small dragon among them. Immediately, Aegon ordered his whole army to meet with them.
They arrived to their location at the end of ninth month and crushed the small army. Yet, the dragon was nowhere to be found. One of captured men told Aegon who they were. Apparently, Gaemon managed to gather enough money to hire sellsword company and hire ships, and sailed with them to Westeros, to reinforce his father. But just as young Targaryen heard about his father´s defeat, he flew away on Smaugon, ordering his army to stay behind and await further orders. They never came.
Seeing he will be of more use in King´s Landing rather than in the field (especially considering the fact he was still wounded from the previous battle and had to be carried everywhere), Aegon chose to return to the capital, leaving command over his southern army to Haerys.
After he returned, he was informed about what happened since he left. He had to choose new Lord Commander of Kingsguard, as Steffon Buckshorn died in tenth month. Aegon chose old ser Anguy as his replacement.
Another death was far more fortunate for Aegon. Lord Owen Florent died at the age of fiftyone after decades of ruling the Reach. And his son, Garth, was far less eager to support Aenar´s rebellion than his father. He chose to remain neutral. Unfortunately for him, he was attacked by lord Lannister shortly afterwards.

At the same time, in rebel encampment, everyone cheered as prince Gaemon landed his dragon and took command over them. He also brought egg from Essos, which was left behind with him by Rhalla. He gave it back to her and to the surprise of everyone, it hatched.
Spoiler: show

Meanwhile, Haerys got message from Bardshome, loyalist castle south of Highgarden. Gaemon´s army was seen to the west of the castle, marching to the north.

Knowing they needed more dragonriders, his mother, Rhaelle, finally tried to tame a dragon of her own.
Spoiler: show

Only few days later, in the half of eleventh month, Stark army, fifteen thousand strong, besieged Rosby. Rhaelle took royal army to fend them off before reinforcements from the Vale, which were currently moving south from the Antlers, arrive.
Both armies met on the eleventh day of twelfth month and after short battle, Starks retreated south, aiming to cross Blackwater Rush west of King´s Landing and meet with Gaemon´s force. At the same time, twenty thousand men from the Vale were only few days away, eager to attack smaller Targaryen army.
Spoiler: show
Image

After hearing about loss of Starks, Velaryon army stopped their advance and chose to wait for potential reinforcements. Nobody came and eventually, commanders gave the order to attack. On the first day of year 213 AC, two armies met and just like before, presence of dragon on the field caused victory for loyalists.
Valemen chose to follow the route of Stark army, planning to combine forces with Gaemon and finally gain advantage over royal army, which was defending lands around King´s Landing. At the same time, Haerys and his force of fifteen thousand men were marching on the Roseroad to the north, following rebels.
In King´s Landing, Aegon´s wounds were finally healed, but king chose to leave command over his forces to his mother and uncle, while he ruled in the capital.
Gaemon´s troops were reported to reside in Tumbleton and were holding it as their base in the Reach, just fifty leagues south of King´s Landing (lord Footly was apparently too afraid of their dragons to refuse hospitality). Twelve thousand Velaryon men were also marching north of the town, retreating further south, where they could be reorganized and return to support Targaryen rebels.
Haerys knew he had great opportunity to strike. They were not in friendly territory and he had twice as many men as they had. He attacked Tumbleton on sixteenth day of second month.

Battle of Tumbleton
When Haerys came, rebels were caught off guard. They expected royal army to come from the north, not from the south. It took them some time to prepare their defenses and when they finally did, it was too late. Their camp was ambushed and part of Haerys´s army entered the town itself. Rebels were panicking and many started to run away, crossing the river and trying to escape.
At the same time, Haerys was flying above the town on Aemax, waiting for two other riders to respond. They did.
Anogaregros and Smaugon rose from the ground and went straight for Aemax. Gaemon attacked first, but bigger Aemax easily overpowered Smaugon. Luckily, Anogaregros attacked Aemax and both dragons started biting at each other. Already wounded Anogaregros had one of its legs almost torn off its body, but was able to lock its jaws around Aemax´s neck. Haerys could only watch as his dragon´s neck was being torn open. Screaming, Aemax freed itself and with its last breath landed on the ground, right next to the river.
Spoiler: show
Image

Haerys drew Dark Sister and planned to cut through as many of rebel soldiers as he could, but after killing few of them, he was hit in the head. He was carried through the river by rebels, followed by Smaugon and maimed Anogaregros.
Loyalists recaptured Tumbleton, but the battle was considered to be huge loss for them. Their commander was captured and another of Targaryen dragons was now gone.

Chapter 40: Time to eat

Aegon was infuriated. He wanted to ride to Stormlands and force Dreamfyre into flight, eager to go after his cousin himself. Only his mother´s words calmed him down and persuaded him to wait. He sent ravens to Tumbleton, calling Haerys´s army back to King´s Landing, where they were supposed to meet with the main army and pursue Gaemon and Cymella.
Meanwhile, rebels were retreating to the west, trying to get as far away from royal armies as possible. Not only was Anogaregros severely wounded, but Cymella was disfigured because of Aemax´s flames.
Aegon chose to split his armies into three parts. One, ten thousand strong, was left in King´s Landing under his command, protecting the capital. Second army, seven thousands strong, was put under command of Rhaelle. Made deliberately smaller, this force´s purpose was to pursue rebel armies, while former army of Haerys, fourteen thousand strong, followed it, providing support in case they met with bigger armies of the North or Vale. In fourth month, two armies under command of Rhaelle departed from Bramsfort, west of King´s Landing, following Gaemon and his force to Westerlands.
At the same time, message came from Byford. Ironborn chose to raid their villages, benefiting from the chaos of civil war. Unfortunately, Aegon could not spare anyone to fight men of Harren Volmark, who was also able to raid in Trident and Reach before he came to Crownlands.
In fifth month, lord Connington finally chose to pick a side. He put all his support behind Aegon, gathering all men that did not already leave with Haerys more than year ago.
In fact, more minor houses also started to pledge support to the Iron Throne. Branch of Arryns from Westerlands, Manderlys, Waxleys to name just few. Despite their ability to keep their dragons alive, rebels started losing hearts of the people and their men themselves started doubting their chance of succeeding.
At the same time, Rhaelle was moving her army to Peckledon on border of Westerlands, where remaining eight thousand rebel soldiers were located. Both her army and Stark host which was besieging Mosborough were also on the move, planning to support their leaders.

They met on the last day of fifth month.

Battle of Peckledon
From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„It was clear they could not win this battle. Their numbers were too small, their troops demoralized, most of their commanders died in previous battles. Even their reinforcements were too far away to arrive in time to counter fifteen thousand men who followed Rhaelle. Yet, to his credit, Gaemon did not flee on Smaugon, but chose to stand and fight. With Anogaregros barely able to fly, they knew it would be a miracle if they defeated healthy Issilgor. Yet they tried.“

Anogaregros was flying low, barely holding above the trees. Smaugon tried to protect the green dragon, but Issilgor locked its jaws around his right wing and completely tore it off. Smaugon fell, quickly followed by Anogaregros. Landing between them, Issilgor tore off head of Anogaregros from his neck and then proceeded to do the same with Smaugon. After only few minutes, both of Gaemon´s dragons were dead and their riders surrendered.

Their army was trying to save them, but just as they started their charge, Rhaelle´s reinforcements arrived. She rose to the sky and burned many of rebels with Issilgor. They were quickly being surrounded, but luckily for them, Starks appeared behind enemy lines. In the chaos of battle, remaining rebel soldiers were able to escape to the south, followed by Starks shortly afterwards. The battle was over.

Gaemon, who lost his leg in the battle, and Cymella were brought to King´s Landing in chains. Immediately after their arrival, king ordered to bring them in front of the Iron Throne. With him was also Aenar, guarded by Kingsguard, and king´s mother, who brought her dragon.

Aenar was only skin and bone, broken after almost year in Black Cells. When he saw his son in chains, he started crying.
Aegon looked at his uncle with disgust and slightly moved Blackfyre, which was resting on his knees.
„Why are you crying, uncle?“ asked Aegon, „I thought you would be happy to once again see your son.“
„Do you think you won, Aegon?“ asked Gaemon, „we still have supporters out there. It is only question of time before they reorganize and come here for you.“
„Optimistic to the end, aren´t you? Yes, lady Stark and that Velaryon bitch still support you, but they don´t have enough men to fight us. Still, I think what is more important is this family reunion. I believe all good meetings should be ended with dinner.“
He looked at his mother and nodded. Aenar heard her say only one word: „Kill.“
Issilgor raised his hand and looked at Gaemon and Cymella for a moment. He opened his mouth and covered them in fire. He started eating them immediately afterwards.
Aenar was looking at the body of his son being slowly devoured by the dragon. He heard Rhaelle saying something, to which Aegon responded: „I don´t need him anymore.“
Two knights of Kingsguard who were holding Aenar pushed him to the ground, turned around and left.
The last thing he saw were Issilgor´s jaws opening.

Small group of men was riding their horses on the road. Above them was flying small dragon. It seemed as if they were here to protect someone. They were moving towards the gate, located between two mountains. Above the gate were flags depicting silver seahorse on sea green field.
Last remnants of Aenar´s army that remained loyal stopped before the Bloody Gate.
„Who are you and why do you come into the Vale?“ asked one of guards of the gate.
Old woman came forward and responded to them: „My name is Rhalla Targaryen. My men are escorting me and Baelor Targaryen, son of Aenar. We come to meet lady Rhaeys.“
Guards let them through and even sent some of their men with them, as an escort.
Rhalla looked up just as Zuvdar flew over the gate. It was not over yet.

Chapter 41: It's treason, then

Aenar, his son and septa Cymella were executed on twentyfourth day of sixth month of year 213. Aegon immediatelly sent ravens to Winterfell and Eyrie, ordering ladies Stark and Velaryon to come to King´s Landing and face king´s justice.
Both knew king´s justice meant revocation of their lands and their execution, possibly even execution of their families. Independently from each other, both lady Stark and lady Velaryon declared independence from the Iron Throne. If they could not have their preffered king on the throne, they did not plan to remain within the realm.
Spoiler: show

Aegon immediatelly called his vassals to help him, but almost nobody responded. Lord Connington was the only Lord Paramount who agreed to help the king. Although, as maesters later said, other houses could not be blamed for their inaction, as they were facing their own rebellions or just endured some. Lord Lannister was under attack by lord Sarsfield, who wanted to put one of his relatives as ruler of Westerlands and lord Reyne was also in the middle of rebellion.
Despite this, Aegon´s army was far stronger than army of the rebels. With almost thirty thousand men and Aemax, Starks and Velaryons could be saved only by miracle.
Royal army regrouped in King´s Landing and was ready to depart at the end of eight month. With Aenar´s ships no longer threathening Blackwater Bay, royal fleet could finally transport troops into Westeros. The question was, where should they go. As both North and Vale were protected by formidable natural defenses and fortifications guarding the only entrance (and despite fragmentation of the former kingdoms, only few castles in the North and Vale were loyal to the king and none of them had enough men available to threathen rebels in any way), the only way to enter these lands was by the sea.
While the fleet was preparing to leave, spies informed Aegon about location of remaining Targaryen rebels, who disappeared after Battle of Peckledon. Rhalla and Baelor were both in the Vale and with them was also Haerys, now imprisoned by lady Velaryon.
With this information, Aegon´s orders were clear. Fourteen thousand men under command of his mother were to be transported by the fleet to Vale. Their orders were to attack Gulltown and draw Velaryon army from the Bloody Gate, so others could assault it and attack Gates of the Moon.
At the same time, fifteen thousand men lead by Allard, one of Aegon´s commanders, were ordered to move to the north and prepare to take Moat Cailin. Rhaelle was supposed to join them once the Vale surrenders and destroy fortress guarding the entrance to the North.
Rhaelle´s army besieged Gulltown at the end of ninth month. At the same time, lord Connington´s vassals rebelled, stopping him from providing any assistance to the king.
Fourteenth day of tenth month, raven arrived to King´s Landing, carrying message from lord Roderick Staunton, ruler of Rook´s Rest. He was under attack by lord Karyl Darklyn of Duskendale and was asking the king to interfere. Aegon immediatelly wrote to lord Darklyn, ordering him to stand down. After refusal, he sent all of his Kingsguard to arrest him.
Not only were they not successful, they also joined lord Karyl in his rebellion.

Other lords from Crownlands joined him, chiefest among them lords Qoherys Velaryon and Maelys Velaryon. After this, Aegon recalled army that was moving to the north back and took command over it personally. Despite this, he ordered his mother to remain in the Vale and defeat last of Aenar´s Targaryens.
What followed were two months of maneuvering, where bigger and slower royal army was trying to attack smaller armies of Crownlander lords. In the end, he ordered six thousand men from Rhaelle´s army to return home and aid him in protection of what remained of Crownlands.
Close to the end of the year, his army was finally able to intercept rebel force south of King´s Landing. The battle was won, but Roderick Staunton was killed during it.
Despite this victory, Crownlands were still swarming with thousands of rebel soldiers. Even Dragonstone itself was besieged by force of lord Maelor and fleet from Driftmark was preventing anyone to enter the island. At the beginning of the year 214, rule of king Aegon III. extended only few leagues around the capital.
Reinforcements from the Vale arrived in first month of next year and Aegon immediately marched with them north. He was able to defeat force of five thousand men west of Rosby, where main rebel army, eight thousand strong, was located.
Yet his joy did not last long. Shortly afterwards, raven arrived from King´s Landing. Spies confirmed what Aegon was fearing for a long time now: Rhaeys Velaryon ordered execution of his uncle, Haerys. He was beheaded on twentyfifth day of second month. According to his spies, Haerys´s sword, Dark Sister, was given to Aenar´s son, Baelor.
Despite these news, Aegon chose to focus on the war with Crownlander lords. He attacked their main force north of Rosby and easily defeated them.
At the same time, Rhaelle, angered by death of her brother, assaulted Gulltown with her dragon. She managed to burn many defenders, but Issilgor was hit by bolt from scorpion in the process. Severely wounded, the dragon landed outside the city, still able to fly, but nowhere near fighting strength. Yet she achieved what she wanted. Gulltown surrendered shortly afterwards, in fourth month. She stayed there for few weeks, awaiting orders of her son.
Aegon besieged Duskendale. Yet his unwillingness to split his army into multiple parts meant he could not effectively defend his castles. While Dragonstone was still holding, Langward Hall in the south of Crownlands fell to army of lord Qoherys Velaryon.
Unwilling to wait any longer, Aegon assaulted Duskendale. Because of his deeds in the battle, septon chose to annoint him as a knight. After the ceremony was over, Aegon marched his army back to King´s Landing, planning to deal with rebels in the south of Crownlands.
Leaving his army behind him and travelling with only small group of guards, he arrived to King´s Landing few days before the end of fifth month. There, Small Council informed him about what happened in Stormlands. Dreamfyre finally succumbed to her wounds, leaving one last egg behind her.

At the age of 181 years, she was the oldest of all Targaryen dragons since the Conquest, including Balerion. Thus died the last living thing that remembered Targaryen Civil War. Her skull, bigger than any other besides Balerion´s, was placed right behind the Iron Throne.

Chapter 42: How to Tame Your Dragon

Aegon sent raven to Gulltown, ordering his mother to hunt down Velaryon forces and take the Eyrie. Small Council tried to persuade the king to recall his mother back, so she could provide them with her dragon and quickly deal with rebels in Crownlands. He reminded them that Issilgor was not strong enough to fly from Gulltown back to King´s Landing without long breaks to regain strength, risking to be ambushed by rebel forces which, despite their losses, roamed freely on Crackclaw Point. On top of that, Ibbenese fleet was close to Blackwater Bay, for some reason supporting lady Stark in her war.
He understood their concerns. With Issilgor moving fly back, King´s Landing was for the first time in decades without protection of any dragonrider. Defense of the city and Crownlands was completely up to men, not to mention that in his mind, king should always ride a dragon, so he could fight his own battles. With that in mind, he gathered the guards and set out for Dragonpit.

From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„Only few years ago, Dragonpit was pride of House Targaryen. Great structure was home for twelve dragons, both tamed and untamed. Now, the great dome fell into disrepair. More parts of the building surrounding destroyed western wing crumbled and with all the money going to buying food from Essos and funding the war, there was nobody who would repair the damage done. Even Gorthalon´s skeleton was still there, black bones between crumbled stones. And only one dragon occupied the remaining eastern part of the stables.
After decades in captivity, Jaharix was not particularly big, but with Dragonstone filled with soldiers of Maelys Velaryon, he was the only option Aegon had. It did not take long before the king was able to tame the black dragon.“

In the Vale, Rhaelle´s scouts found location of Rhalla and her army. She immediately ordered her men to move northeast, to Longbow Hall on peninsula between Runestone and Fingers.
In Crownlands, Ibbenese landed both south and north of King ´s Landing. Aegon chose to move north, but was not able to catch them. At the same time, he got message from Stormlands. Qoherys Velaryon captured Adderdell and planned to move back to Crownlands. And Celtigars were able to find a common ground with four thousand Stark men, who were in Crackclaw point and together besieged loyalist castles located on eastern tip of the peninsula.
With Ibbenese being able to escape him, he turned his attention to them, first planning to take out five thousand men who besieged Edgerton and then move further east.
Spoiler: show

Rhaelle reached Longbow Hall in eight month and found what she wanted there. Four thousand men accompanied by small dragon.
Only two years old, Zuvdar could not match Issilgor even in this weakened state. Rhalla knew this and chose to flee. Yet dragons so small are barely capable to carry an adult human and Zuvdar struggled to keep himself up. Rhaelle moved Issilgor right into the middle of enemy army, caught Zuvdar into her jaws, pinned him down on the ground and tore him apart.
Spoiler: show

Yet when Rhaelle turned her attention to her injured aunt, she was repelled by arrows and swords of Rhalla´s army. Rising above the fleeing Velaryon force, she burned many of Rhalla´s men before they fled. After only few minutes, Battle of Longbow Hall was over and royal army was victorious.
In the meantime, Aegon destroyed rebels at Edgerton, but had to move south, so he could intercept six thousand Ibbenese men who were trying to besiege King´s Landing with the rest of their force. With their defeat, he moved even further south, passing Blackwater Rush in the half of ninth month. He destroyed Ibbenese forces in Woodmere and Bywater. For the first time in months, both lands south and north of King´s Landing were secure.
Yet when he was resting in Bywater, news came from Dragonstone. After long siege, the garrison finally surrendered. On top of that parts of the castle and town were damaged in the process.
Filled with fear, he started preparations to return to capital, so he could use his fleet to carry his men to retake Dragonstone. Yet only few days later, his spies confirmed his greatest fears. One of Velaryon commanders was able to find Seasmoke and tame her.
Spoiler: show

In the Vale, Rhaelle finally managed to reach Gates of the Moon and in eleventh month, she flew up to the Eyrie. Lady Rhaeys was there, together with most of her close family and both Rhalla and Baelor. With small garrison, they were unable to resist the dragon that landed right in their garden and surrendered. Gates of the Moon also opened their gate to royal army. The Vale was finally defeated.
Rhaelle was ordered to immediately return back to King´s Landing, which she managed to do in only two weeks. Right after her return, Aegon boarded seven thousand of his men on boats and set sail for Dragonstone.

Chapter 43: The last dance

Gathering even more men on the way, Aegon had more than eight thousand men, against barely four thousand from Driftmark. On twentysecond day of eleventh month, royal fleet aproached Dragonstone.

The Last Dance
From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„Ships and dragon are terrible combination. Maelys Velaryon knew that and tried to attack royal fleet while it was close to the shore. Aegon predicted this move and was already in the air, together with his mother. While Issilgor was much slower due to his wounds and was thus unable to attack Seasmoke in time, Jaharix quickly intercepted the blue dragon, preventing her from burning men in the water below.
With Velaryon dragon no longer a threat, royal army successfuly disembarked on shores of Dragonstone, where their enemy was already waiting. Despite their advantage and determination, Velaryon men were unable to hold for a long time. Most of them started retreating to their ships located on the other side of the town, while others retreated into the castle.
Meanwhile, last three dragons in the world danced in the sky for the last time in this war.“

Years that Seasmoke spent outside captivity on Dragonstone put her in advantage. Much smaller Jaharix was struggling against her and while he was able to evade her attacks, he could not keep it for long. Relief came in form of Issilgor, which distracted Seasmoke, but at a cost. Blue dragon managed to cause a deep wound on Issilgor´s left side before disengaging.
Realizing red dragon was far easier target, Maelys focused on bringing Issilgor down, while repelling attacks of Jaharix. Seasmoke locked its claws around Issilgor´s right wing and cause even more wounds to the struggling dragon. Aegon tried to help his mother, but he had to turn Jaharix away to evade her fire. Left without defense, Issilgor had its head ripped of his body and fell into waters close to the harbor.

Angered, Aegon turned Jaharix to face Seasmoke and his dragon was able to lock its jaws around her neck. Screaming in pain, Seasmoke´s neck was almost torn open by Jaharix, but also managed to cause wounds to smaller dragon with her claws. Both dragons disengaged.
Seeing Seasmoke´s weakness, he quickly turned around and attacked her. But in the last moment, she managed to evade and breath fire right next to Aegon. Severely burned on left half of his body, Aegon could not control his dragon. Seasmoke attacked panicking Jaharix, blinded him with fire and ripped open his stomach.
Black dragon fell to his death to shallow waters in Dragonstone´s harbor.
Spoiler: show

Despite death of both enemy dragons, Seasmoke was in no condition to fight. Maelys instead used her to scare royal fleet, to allow his men to escape.

Mangled body of king Aegon III. was recovered from the water. Royal army quickly defeated small garrison of the castle and maester did all he could to save king´s life. Broken, with his legs no longer working, he was put on a ship and sailed back to King´s Landing. Body of his mother was not found, but as was later revealed, she was found in the water by escaping Velaryons and brought to Driftmark. She did not last long.
Aegon recovered enough to survive for short times without milk of the poppy and in King´s Landing met with imprisoned Velaryons and Targaryens.
Because of treason against the Crown, lady Rhaeys Velaryon will be executed and all her titles will revert to the king. Her family will be allowed to live, but as hostages in Red Keep, until their loyalty is proven.
When it came to the question of form of her execution, Aegon ordered to crush her to death. At the same time, he gave her lands to lord Morgan Arryn, reinstalling this house as rulers of the Vale.
Spoiler: show

Rhalla and Baelor Targaryen were put into dungeons, to await king´s justice. Many suspected he would let them live as hostages, just like he let Velaryons live, but only few days later, at the beginning of twelfth month, ship came from Driftmark under peace banner. They brought him body of his mother, almost unrecognizable after the wounds she suffered in the battle.
Angered by the loss of his mother, he ordered his men to bring Baelor and Rhalla to him and ordered to have them executed, Rhalla for her betrayal and Baelor for betrayal of his father. They were both crushed to death.
At the same time, Theomore Reyne, Lord Paramount of Trident died and was succeeded by his son.
Spoiler: show

In first month of the next year, four thousand men were ferried to Driftmark, where they defeated what remained of Velaryon force. Surprisingly, Seasmoke was nowhere to be found. As peasants revealed to them, the blue dragon was in such a bad shape she was unable to fly. Another four thousand were brought back to King´s Landing, to deal with enemies in Crownlands.
In the Vale, former army of Rhaelle, five thousand strong, was ordered to march north, to take Moat Cailin and open the way to the North.
Eleven thousand men were sent to Duskendale, where small army of rebels besieged the city. At the same time, army of the same size from Stormlands broke off their campaign on Crackclaw Point, where they were defending remaining loyal castles, and marched south to meet with royal army.
Defeating rebels in Duskendale, royal army destroyed men of Qoherys Velaryon who were west of Rosby at the beginning of fourth month. Afterwards, they marched to Crackclaw Point, where rebels held most of the peninsula and had it secured with more than twelve thousand Crownlander and Stark men. They arrived at Whispers in the half of sixth month.
In the meantime, broken Aegon ruled in King´s Landing. Rumors were saying he has become completely mad from milk of the poppy and even his children were scared of him. On eighteenth day of sixth month, king spent his day in bed, getting reports from the realm and talking to his councillors. Just like many times before, he called for Grand Maester Harstyn to give him milk of the poppy before the sleep. But on that evening, Grand Maester came surprisingly quickly.

It was already dark and the only candle in his room was barely able to light the area around his bed. He heard doors opening, but could not see who came.
„Harstyn?“ asked the king.
He got no response. After few seconds, he heard something fall to the ground and shortly afterwards heard hissing sound.
„Harstyn, what is happening?“
Whatever was on the floor was coming closer to him. It came to his bed and under his sheets, touching his left leg.
„Guards! Help!“
He felt sharp pain in his left thigh. His vision slowly became blurr and he felt pain throughout his body. In his last moment, he heard a man who was definitely not Grand Maester Harstyn say a few words.
„The Velaryons send their regards.“

Epilogue

From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„King Aegon, third of his name, was found dead in his bed by Grand Maester Harstyn. Next to him was venomous snake and it became clear to everyone the king was murdered. Yet, despite investigations, murderer´s identity remained unknown.
His son, Jacaerys, was crowned the next day, after his father´s funeral. With the king only seven years old, Grand Maester was chosen as boy´s regent and was left to deal with multiple rebellions.
Where Aegon wanted to destroy his enemies, Harstyn tried to negotiate with them. It was not surprising to see rebels also being willing to restore peace in the realm, after three and a half years of fighting. With the king dead, the only enemy of Crownlander lords was gone and after meeting between Qoherys Velaryon and Grand Maester, they agreed on peace terms. None of them was to be harmed or persecuted for their acts during the war. They would keep their lands and titles and would swear fealty to the new king.
At the same time, raven was sent to Winterfell, offering the same terms to lady Stark. Yet, due to long distances, it would take some time before this matter could be resolved. Meanwhile, on Crackclaw Point, royal army finally reached force of House Stark and started the last battle of Second Dance.“

With superior numbers and help from the locals, Targaryen army defeated Starks. Scattered Northmen escaped to the west.
Month after Aegon´s death, Bethany Stark, Queen in the North, accepted terms of the regent and reunited the North with the Iron Throne. Most of royal army was brought back home, including men from Stormlands, with only five thousand remaining in King´s Landing.
Second Dance was over, but separate wars still raged in Riverlands, Westerlands and Reach, while Ironborn enjoyed their reaving on the western side of Westeros. On top of that, Pentoshi attacked lord Connington, trying to exploit weakened Stormlands and take slaves from them. Harstyn sent remnant of the royal army to help them. They were able to defeat smaller contingent of Pentoshi troops close to Fellwood, while lord Connington dealt with the main force.
In the North, separate rebellion occured, with many lords trying to overthrow lady Bethany. With royal army so far away and in such reduced numbers, Small Council could not help her.
Seeing that it could take years before the realm is once again in peace, Harstyn temporarily distributed titles of Wardens for South and West, with Maelor Velaryon, lord of Driftmark, becoming Warden of the South, while title of Warden of the West was to be given to fitting candidate short time later.
Many asked why was Qoherys Velaryon not chosen, but lord Qoherys himself was complaining about his health and even became sick. He died few weeks later, in twelfth month. He was fiftysix years old.
Year 216 AC came and with it defeat of the last Pentoshi troops in Stormlands, which ended their raids. Yet the good news ended there.
Month later, on seventh day of second month, lord Maelor got a raven from Driftmark. After months in agony, Seasmoke finally succumbed to her wounds. The last dragon was gone.

From „Second Dance“ by Maester Mace
„Five years ago, extinction of dragons would be seen as a tragedy. Now, after years of war started by dragonrider who wanted to become a king, most people simply felt relieved. No more would these huge beasts threathen whole cities and no more would proud dragonlords fight over their rights while thousands of others suffered because of them.
Thus ends our retelling of these events. In four years, Westeros turned from prospering kingdom to ravaged land, with Crownlands needing decades to completely recover. Of House Targaryen, only three small children remained, left without parents or any other member of their family. Of their dragons, who conquered Westeros two hundred years ago, only few eggs remained. They never hatched.“

And so it ends. After five months, 44 chapters, 5 overviews, thousands of screenshots and 148 pages in Microsoft Word, the AAR is finished. To anyone who was able to read this to the end (I mean, there are about 30 more views every time I post new chapter, so statistically there shoud be at least one insane person actually reading this...right?): Thank you for your attention and I hope you got some enjoyment out of this, because I certainly did with two hundred of Targaryen rule and my own version of Dance of Dragons (which needed only minor tweaks, so things could be as "real" and interesting as possible, for example Rhalla and Baelor moving to the Vale instead of my court, Haerys remaining imprisoned, Velaryons being able to tame Seasmoke, because why the hell wouldn´t they if they conquered Dragonstone and were fighting Targaryens...and death of Seasmoke, for poetic justice (she was maimed in the battle, but started healing, and we all know how this mod works, even one dragon alive means dragons will be there for centuries to come, not to mention 2 eggs that me and my brother had)), together with absurd amount of dragon deaths, my own Sea Snake (except Qoherys was not famous for his travels, but for his victories in tourneys, but seriously, the similarities are amazing, he became famous when young, married Targaryen princess and in his old age participated in Dance of Dragons, where his wife died, with him passing away short time after the war ended) and Targaryens dying like flies (thanks to me, to be honest).
And while it was fun to write this story and see how Westeros develops in almost two hundred years, I am really, really looking forward to playing this mod without making screenshots of every minor thing that happened and taking necessary breaks in playing to write the story, not to mention how relieved I am I was actually able to finish this.
So, have a nice day and...FREEEDOM :D

Thank you for a wonderful AAR and a decent story! I would love to ready anything else you right. Also, if I may make a suggestion, the story becomes much more interesting when you tell it from a narrative, like the "the Dragon Has Three Heads" AAR here that tells about the reign of King Aerys III, son of Dany. Completely up to you though. Thanks again, one of the better AARs out there. Have you considered reposting this on the Paradox forums where it might get more views?

I am happy to see you enjoyed it.
About telling it from narrative, I thought about it at the beginning, but I realized that my English skills may not be good enough to do it (those parts written from character´s point of view were actually the most challenging simply because I often had to search for English words which could express what my brain was thinking in Slovak). Saying that, I might actually do something similar to AAR you mentioned (which I read and enjoyed every bit of it...shame it was never finished, although with the way how Aztec invasion works, I guess Aerys would play role of Elia Martell in Sack of King´s Landing). Problem here was that it was meant to be more like chronicle of events happening in Westeros, while also slowing down during major wars, so if I chose to write it in similar way, I would probably never get past Aerea. Next time I will do AAR, I will most likely go with playing as one known character, using some alternate route (for example Jon accepting Stannis´s offer or something like that) and trying to do something similar as "the Dragon Has Three Heads". But who knows when (or if) that happens.
And about reposting it on Paradox forums, I think it is unnecessary, it got enough views here. And I would rather write new AAR and upload it both here and on PDX forums simultaneously than reupload more than 40 chapters and spend Cthulhu knows how long actually doing that.

OK, cool. The Sunset invasion is very winnable if you have the realm with you. Their dragons are only medium size so with luck you will won any dragon duels. Also, I started an AAR as Aegon VI, you may want to check it out if you haven't?
