Volcano's of Planetos and why we need them ingame

PostPosted by PallyWC » Tue Sep 26, 2017 17:20

as we all know Dragonstone is a boon to Dragons if it's your capital due to the Dragonmont, and it is also the seat of House Targaryen, and it's heirs in most games....

What some may not know is that there are multiple other Volcanos that have similiar effects but are not represented presently in the game (despite the prov's existing there is no special Dragonmont equivalent "building")

Ie:
Many believe Winterfell is built ontop of a dormant volcano or active lava flow due to its hotsprings (I would assume any effect would be mooted due to the cold....just making it more likely a winterfell dragon would be normal instead of small/weak
Marahai is effectively Hawaii an Island of intense beauty formed shaped and constantly growing because it's one giant active volcano...
Skagos is said to have volcanic activity and be a source of Dragonglass which given it's proximity to the Night's Watch is kinda useful information
etc

Basically I'm asking if we can get other alternative "dragonmonts" in locations where canon supports it being present/likely to be present with a little investment mapping the province/what you decide..

I beseech you as a person who enjoys the occasional game as Velaryon or Qoherys

This is a good idea, although what is the source for Skagos having volcanic activity?

The argument is that since Skagos was hit with a "Doom of Valyria"-like situation at about the same time, the island must also be volcanic. See here:

You're thinking of Hardhome, not Skagos.
Smart and dumb are two sides of the same coin. Every time a new Stark is born the gods flip a coin . . . and it always seems to land on dumb.

It's mostly that Skagos mines dragonglass per, "Though rarely seen off their island, the stoneborn once were accustomed to crossing the Bay of Seals to trade or, more oft, raid—until King Brandon Stark, Ninth of His Name, broke their power once and for all, destroyed their ships, and forbade them the sea. For most of recorded history, they have remained an isolated, backward, savage folk, as like to murder those who land upon their isle as to trade with them. When they do consent to trade, the Skagosi offer pelts, obsidian blades and arrowheads, and “unicorn horns” for goods they desire."...therefore somewhere on the island is something that at one point generated enough heat to form dragonglass....
same with Asshai and the Shadowlands which literally export Dragonglass as a trade good, and given the description of Ash river, seems more than likely some crazysauce in the mountains of morn or Stygai..

also could lead to some interesting rickon events if GRRM rolls that way....which seems possible as having him in Skagos but not aware of the dragonglass to relay its location later seems odd.....tho he is a Stark sooo stupid shit is entirely possible...
