(Submod idea) Break the Wheel: Imperial government for Westeros

PostPosted by ave369 » Mon Oct 02, 2017 11:01

"Lannister, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell, they’re all just spokes on a wheel. This one’s on top and that one’s on top and on and on it spins, crushing those on the ground. We’re not going to stop the wheel. I’m going to break the wheel" - Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones series

Well, this submod idea gives her a chance to actually break the wheel. A decision to "Break the Wheel" becomes available under the following conditions:
* Daenerys Targaryen is Queen on the Iron Throne (either regnant, or consort to Young Griff or Jon Snow);
* The Others are eliminated for good (this is more or less post-canon content).

What it does? It changes the Iron Throne from the feudal mess we know and love to a more centralized, organized Imperial government with all of the usual consequences such as unlocking the ability to revoke lord titles freely and to turn High Lordships into viceroyalties. It also unlocks a second decision, "Create the Royal Army". This is implemented as a series of vassal mercenary companies of the Iron Throne, available only to it at reduced cost. What goes there depends on the previous events:
* If Dany holds any Dothraki titles, a company of Dothraki joins the Royal Army;
* If Dany liberated Astapor, a company of Unsullied joins the Royal Army;
* If Young Griff is Dany's husband, the Golden Company becomes part of the Royal Army;
* If Jon Snow is Dany's husband, what's left of the Night's Watch is converted into a Royal Army company (the Others are gone for good, so the black brotherhood is officially disbanded).

Is it possible to make such a submod?

I really like this Idea. I think it gives a better incentive to playing as Daenerys and even helping her win the Throne.

I would also like a mod like that! Even though, IMO it would break the wheel and replace it by a hammer, since it would be evem more autocratic. Something as elective with absolute cognatic would be more fitting.

As for the idea, it is great. Looks like it could be a Imperial Roman government with mercs like the varangian guard with culture units from vassals. The Dothraki with horse archers, DorneI wish pikemen, Tarlys Longbow, etc would be awesome.

Although, I wish I was learned in programming so I could help out with this.

There is no such thing as a Magic Democracy Fairy. There are a lot of steps between feudalism and democracy, and absolutism is one of them. Don't think of it as "more autocratic" or "less autocratic", think of it as "a lot of autocrats who constantly attack one another" vs "just one autocrat, and everyone else is equal under law and enjoys civil peace". Depowering the feudals is necessary for the rise of the merchant class, the rise of the merchant class is necessary for a modernized society, and a modernized society is necessary for democracy.

And if one tries to be a Magic Democracy Fairy and implement it in a society that has no idea what constitution, free enterprise and human rights are, the result will be remarkably similar to what Daenerys achieved in Slavers' Bay, that is, a collapse of society.

Awesomeness. But his post isn't entirely too ambitious. He's structuring his post around the confines of vanilla ck2.

Interesting idea, but maybe it shouldn't be restricted to just Daenerys? Maybe any king or queen that matches certain requirements (Ambitious is the most obvious one; maybe Ruthless and/or Just; having sufficiently high Prestige and perhaps high Crown Authority to start with) should be able to attempt this, though would face serious resistance from the nobility on the way. Though maybe this should be easier for Daenerys given her special circumstances.
