I think, but not sure, that they have to be on the same line.
Other than that, it's really nice.

Looks good! 8-)

The only recommendation I'd make is to use the color system or the chevrons. Using both looks... cluttered.

Also, if you were going to use a color system, I'd switch the color ordering. Maybe something like [Dark Red/Light Red/Beige/Light Green/Dark Green]. I like the gold and silver, but the other colors look out of place with it and there aren't nearly as many distinguishable metallic colors.

EDIT:

Here's a quick mock up using the image posted earlier in the thread

Alternatively, maybe go bronze for the first two tiers, silver for the next two, and then gold for the highest?

See, the thing with going this way is that those collors don't really fit the levels, in my opinion. The different levels are called [failed/botched/standard/impressive/legendary] respectively. While gold (i.e. 1st place) goes with legendary alright, bronze (i.e. 3rd place) does not fit with failed or bothced. If you recive the bronze medal in something, you've beaten most of the comepetition and recieved third place.

Moreover, bronze, silver, and gold just don't seem to fit a bell curve well. A general with 10 martial will have a 46% of using a stadard tactic. this means if we used the metallic color system, silver (i.e. 2nd place) would be by far the most shown tactic. That just doesn't make sense to me.

That's just my opinion anyways. The only reason I'm commenting on this at all is because I was in charge of performance tracking at my old job, and my boss couldn't be troubled to actually look at the numbers, so I have some experience using graphics to represent data. ;)

The color choice will be a huge thing to choose and check...
Still, I'd like to have something for the release and we are somehow running out of time.

So Narf, if you can give me those you already made in the .dds format (or what ever it is) so I can integrate them and put screen of them inside game because it is an element to consider as there is a background to those icons. (if you have access to the RC, you can try to put them him on your own too).

If something is made later, it could be integrated to a patch or "hot fix". We could also deliver many version as sub-mod so people can choose between one or another (if we have many versions and the artist want to share them).

I hear ya! I just wanted to make sure the what ever design is used fits the goals you stated in the OP. Ultimately everything comes down to what you'd like.

I'm not a gfx kind of guy...
For the combat file, I want what I like and is balanced. For the gfx, I want what players like the most, fit the universe the most.
When I'll put dynasty tactics, I don't want the stark one to represent a horse, that's for sure :D

RC = release candidate (the version that was put to test but currently disabled because of a leak...)

If you don't have access to it, I could give away the tactic file as a stand alone mod and use your gfx in it as well.

I for one think everything looks fantastic, but I see the concerns people are posting.

How about gold/silver/bronze for the top three levels, with a black or grey for the fourth, and red for a botched attempt?
