Can I just say please don't edit the hues of the westerners as that would just look like Victorian Blackface performers (They existed at one time, it's not racist to mention them! :D ). Light-hearted post people...

And unfortunately Minstrels were still around in the 20th century. And you're right, just changing the skintone would look weird.

I have the program DAZ which I think many of this portraits are made with. If there's a problem with any of the individual character sets, I'm happy to see what I can do?

What is DAZ?

It's a character model creation/editing tool. It's like Spore, but vastly more complicated and expensive.

As an example, I knocked this one up in a couple of minutes. No idea if it is the type of thing you are looking for, if it is any better than what is being argued about, or how to do any of the cool adjustments you've done, but here's vaguely what it'd look like.

Definitely looks good, it just needs to keep the same offset angle as all the others (which is something around 25 degrees I think)

*edit*
When I was pondering this, I was thinking that having some Melanesian blonde hairstyles might be cool for Summer Islanders.

That looks absolutely awesome. DAZ Studio 4 seems to be free.

It even works on a Mac which is unusual for 3D software.

Will see what I can do about the angle.

DAZ itself is free, but most of the content for it isn't. I think you can make some pretty decent stuff for free. I've got a pretty decent library, so if anyone wants me to have a crack at something just ask.

Well, if you are up to it, this is the amount of frames needed:
Basehead 1
Neck 4
Cheek 11
Chin 13
Mouth 13
Nose 13
Eyesbrows 13
Ear 10
For young, middle-aged and old characters and for men and women. Mounting up to 468 frames if my math is correct (which it suprisingly often is not, but I'm pretty sure I counted it correctly). :D
On the other hand, 10 for each would be enough, I suppose. No need to do exactly as many frames as paradox has, I think. If you are willing to do those with DAZ with the same angle the paradox faces have (because if they are not then the beards, clothes etc. don't fit) and post them here or send them to me otherwise I can take make the individual frames from the pictures and incorporate the frames to the DDS files and to portraits.gfx.

topic342.html#p3610

Hey guys I'm back. Blocked in some Royal Clothes for Westerman. I am going with a red and gold scheme, but that might not be a good idea considering the whole dynastic change thing. Even if it helps identify the character as the Lord of the West, a Westerman may still get a seat in another land. I'm sticking with the gold and bling though, to represent the riches of the West.

You guys have any recommendations like more bling, or more "royal" like clothes or anything?

This actually looks better than the vanilla portraits.

If only it wouldn't take a ridiculous amount of work to redo portraiture entirely.

What does the rest of the graphics team think about having a mix of dark hair and Melanesian blondes for Summer Islander hairstyles?

And now I can't help but wonder what the other cultures might look like, rendered with this tool..

Could it be that this mod might actually replace the so-so facial graphics of vanilla with something much, much better?

It's a nice ideal, but not only would all the vanilla portrait graphics need to be replaced, but all the various clothing graphics, both vanilla and unique to the mod, would need to be repainted.
