[Trait] Flayer

PostPosted by jarnomiedema » Fri Jun 08, 2012 15:28

I was playing as House Bolton recently (as I've been doing for a while) and noticed that Roose Bolton has the 'impaler' trait. While I really liked this, I suddenly wondered why there wasn't a 'flayer' trait. Unfortunately I have no idea how to make a new trait and I'm still kind of on the fence about what it would constitute for a character, but wouldn't it be cool to include it among the list?

It might be even be worked into an event or existing events regarding prisoners.. What if, instead of sending someone to the obliette, you could flay / impale / torture them, thereby receiving corresponding traits?

I was wondering if you guys might have any ideas regarding this? What penalties / bonusses would a trait like this give? How would other people react to it? Would it be limited to the North or for all of Westeros? I'd love to hear what you have to say!

In the mean time, here's the little graphic I had in mind for 'flayer':

Any suggestions / ideas?

Aerys already can execute people by burning: I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to implement the same sort of thing for the Boltons.

Do true,
or perhaps he can just rename the ''impaler'' to better reflect the setting? :)

(its a lifestyle already with its own events, plus the description focues on ''enjoying all manner of torture in your dungeon'' - kinda fits the purpose and its a trivial job)

As they say: ''Don't ask a question you don't wish to hear the answer to''.

Personally it looks like Supermeatboy being molested by a can opener, but hey thats just me.

It's supposed to look like a small strip of skin being peeled of with a knife, with the flesh underneath slowly being revealed.. Though I suppose I could also make a variant with the flayed man, but then that'd probably be too Bolton-exclusive..

But yeah, you might not have wanted to know that..

I thought it might be that but the outer skin (bottom part) is too similar to the top, it should be more like the flap of skin imo.

Good idea.. I agree that right now it's not very clear that it's a piece of skin on the outside.. I'll make some adjustments tonight and see what comes out..

I like, flavor is always great.

The updated version looks better, I think the tip of the blade needs to be more grey as it looks like its part of the skin that overlaps the cut and is shaped like a scalene triangle.

edit: When I zoom my browser in 150% I can see the other edge of the knife is the knife and not overlapping scalene triangle shaped skin, but I would never be able to acheive that kind of zoom ingame :P

final edit: While we are on the subject of the Boltons don't you think it would be cool if gray/grey eyes were an option, as I remember Roose being described as having Pale Grey eyes by GRRM.

So would anyone still be interested in adding this as a trait? I know that Roose Bolton now has the 'impaler' trait and it's wonderful that the Boltons have the 'flay prisoner alive' option in their intrigue list, but I think it'd still be wonderful if a specific trait could be made and gained by other Northern families as well..

Too bad I just don't know how to create a new trait.. :(

Would make sense, and once we can properly implement a sense of fear and loyalty into the AI, would be a nice touch to keeping the north under the Bolton thumb just a bit more.

upload a .dds version. I see no reason impaler couldn't be relocalized. However for the sake of identifying traits at a glance, it would be best to have the blue background.
"Non MTTH Tourneys" = WIP
"Merchans of Westeros" = Cabe made up some titles and i groan at the amount of work involved
"The Thieving Blacksmith" = 90% Image

Here's what it looks like with a blue background: Image

While I agree that uniformity is best, I'm not sure this works.. I tried removing bits of the blue background to reveal the skin tone underneath, but that looked even worse.. :( I'll edit this post later to add the .dds file so whoever wants to can work on it some more (I have a Photoshop .psd version as well if anyone's interested in that).

Enclosed are the Photoshop .psd file, a .dds file and the trait icon in blue, also a .dds file.
